Learning from a petFollow

#1 Aug 19 2008 at 10:53 PM Rating: Decent
Greetings from Belgium,

One of my toons is lvl 41 Night Elf Hunter. The pet is a cat. The cat needs the Prowl and Cower skills. I was told that taming an animal that had those skills would teach the hunter those skills. Therefore, I tamed a Jaqueiro Lion (lvl 41 cat) that has those skills! I was told that, for learning the skills, the hunter had to fight with the animal and, after a random number of fighting, I would get the skills!

I have been doing so but I never got any new skill and, worse, the Lion is loosing its skills!?!?!?

What am I doing wrong?

Please, help me!

It should be fairly easy to train from a pet , are you sure it has not already taught you ?

All i can say is check your pet training page to see if it is already in your list , if not then only fighting with the pet can learn you the skills .

Also i am puzzled by you saying the cat is loosing the skills ? as far as i know that is impossible , and i hope you have some special reason for wanting Cower as i find it completely useless unless you are doing instances with your pet as an off tank and it keeps getting killed ?

I find depending on the pets level to you it can sometimes take a little while to learn new skills but never more than about 10 minutes.

The Jaguero Stalkers on Jaguero Isle in STV are one of the animals that got nerfed a few patches back. This animal knows skills that are too high for its current level. They used to be level 51. Blizz left the animal with the skills it had when it used to be 51. However if you dismiss your pet, mount your horse, go to a different zone than STV or any other thing that makes your pet no longer stand beside you, your pet will mysteriously lose those skills you wish to learn from it. In order to assure you will learn the skills from the Jaguero StaLker, you must fight with it before doing any of those things above. I just did my fighting on Jaguero Isle until I learned the skill. I didn't want to risk accidentally dismissing my pet and needing to start the taming over on a new one.

Further if you the hunter, are too low level for the skills, you too will lose the skills the first time you 'zone out' after learning the skill from the pet.

Kiting.

Not having to spam Distracting Shot While kiting a mob to death is a huge relief on your mana. I know, just solo:ed Tusker using kiting, and I had to use DS because my pet was doing loads of damage. The skill is highly situational, but far from useless.

Don't you unlearn those skills when you zone out after learning them too early? So even if you manage to get the pet to teach you the skills, you lose them as soon as you hit a loading screen.

If you want Prowl rank 2 (which you can learn at level 41)
* Ridge Stalker Patriarch (40-41, Badlands) * Dash 2, Prowl 2
* Elder Shadowmaw Panther (42-43, Stranglethorn Vale) * Dash 2, Prowl 2

I would highly suggest getting either one for Dash 2, anyway. Dash makes your life more enjoyable.
