Tanking Blood FurnaceFollow

I finally made it to the Outlands and went from 58 to 60 in no time. So the other night I'm asked to tank Blood Furnace and after warning the person of my minimal experience tanking agreed. It was a disaster. I can't even remeber how many times I died. I know some if not most of the time it was my fault. Anyway after thinking about it I started wondering if the problem is my stats. Could someone let me know if my numbers are to low to tank either Blood Furnace or Ramparts? Here are my self buffed numbers:

Armor: 6k
AP: 714
Crit: 20.21%
Health: 4.9k
Defense: 294
Dodge: 14.21%

Thanks for any advice. I know my gear isn't great but I thought I would be able do the earlier instances in order to get better gear as reward. Here is my armory.

In my opnion you are a bit to low. You might be able to tank Ramps but even that will be hard on the bosses. Lv 60 is on the very low side for tanking and specially for a Druid with fewer tanking specials and options. You could certaintly DPS Ramps and BF, but I would wait until your lv 62 for Ramps and even 63 for BF before you think about tanking. You could perhaps tank it sooner but you would have to have the "perfect" group, have the best gear for your level, etc. and even then it would be tough.

In my experiance tanks have to be on the upper range of the instance for things to go smoothly. Level and gear hurts tanks more than anyone else.

I'm presuming the 4.9k health is for caster form, since you logged out as a bear with 5.9k health. I can't remember my stats when I tanked those but 60 is a little low for BF. You could probably handle Ramps, but BF is a step up and perhaps better done at 61. (I think I tanked Ramps twice at 60 and BF at 61. The first time in Ramps was a mess because I'd never done an OL instance before -- they are tougher than old world in terms of pulls, strategies, etc.)

What jumps out at me is that you lack just about any OL quest rewards other than the starter staff. If you just do the quests around Thrallmar you'll pick up stuff that will help. In fact, just finish the quest for Ramps and you will get http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=25717. Other quest rewards to look for include http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=29940 (from a simple bombing run) and http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=29939. I got them both when I was 59; you can easily handle the chain at 60.

There's much more out there too; just browse through Hfp quests. Most are soloable and it's usually easy to get a group. With OL gear, tanking those instances is easier.

As a final note, I've had very smooth runs with a slightly under-leveled tank (as you were in BF) when the rest of the group knew what it was doing. There may have been other contributing factors rather than the fact that you weren't kitted out in top gear. So don't let it scare you away from continuing to tank; that's how you get better and get better gear.

Thanks for the advice. I just finished running Rampart, mostly as DPS. I picked up some more gear including the boots that were mentioned. It helped that the group had a upper level Hunter and Priest. The tank was level 58 so I did off-tank a few times. Most of the quest rewards I had picked up previously (in Outlands) I used to improve my healing gear.

I understand what you mean about tanks being on the up end level wise. The only other instance I tanked was Mara and I did that at level 52.

Don't start tanking outland instances right away, mobs hit kinda hard and If I were you just grind out some quests. One that archer missed out on was this one:

Jerkin of Untamed spirit from :- Grillok "Darkeye"

It's a good armor piece that can last you for awhile (till clefthoof maybe). I got to outland maybe maybe 2 weeks ago (slow lvler) and didn't start tanking instances till I had about close to 8k-9k armor and 9k-10k hp.

http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/guides.html?guide=1136 this can help ya out on what gear to choose, and It's written from the horde perspective so you can knock out those quests.

The jerkin is fabulous, wore it religiously til 70. At 60 you may need a hand w Grillok but maybe you can solo him (I couldn't at 59). The key is to interrupt that Chain Lightning. And you can pull his two guards w/out pulling him. Just be sure to clear all the sorcerers and skeletons outside the cave since both the guards and Grillok flee on low health.
