I have two level 60 Paladins. My Belfadin has been straight Ret from 1-60, besides a short stint as Protection 44-46. My human leveled Protection 1-60 back pre-1.8.

I rerolled the human as Holy for a change, and because I frankly sucked at playing Protection-spec solo. I'm enjoying being holy so far, although half my gear is not yet upgraded. However, I'm looking for any tips to make things go faster, or to give me an edge in PvP (this is one of my only high level characters on a PvP server). I faced off against a mage in world PvP yesterday, same level as me, and just barely died (clicked my potion a half second too slow), but it also showed me that I lack much Pally PvP skill.

The Armory hasn't upgraded my characters since the weekend, but my Paladin has 310 alchemy/herbalism, is leveled 60, and is using this spec: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=sVEh0xzGxotZVbh

I planned on sticking with Retribution now to get 3/3 Pursuit of Justice, which I always found useful for leveling Ret, and then dumping the rest of my points back into Holy. However I was also debating going into Protection instead, because Guardian's Favor is nice in PvP and Precision would help those annoying resist/misses on my spells.

I plan on respeccing and tweaking my build come 70 to make it more healer-friendly, but I'm looking for a primarily Holy build to level to 70 and heal in normal instances, and also for some tips on how to gain an edge in any world PvP I might find. Thanks for the help!

I leveled Holy in Outland. For PvP, your best bet is to closely watch what your opponent is doing (as with all kinds of PvP).

For example - if you're fighting a mage, you have to get in close. If you see them winding up a Frostbolt, throw up Frost Res Aura, and get ready to Cleanse the chill de-buff ASAP. Once you get in close, beat on them. If they ice block, then banadge yourself. If they wind up a Pyro or something, wait until the last second, and HoJ them. Then, just beat them down.

Warlocks or SPriests....run like the wind. Use that Pursuit of Justice :)

The main question comes down to what you want to do with your spec. PVP, PVE, raiding, etc

I leveled ret til about 62 then went shockadin spec (holy/ret). I LOVED it and it's still my preferred spec allowing me to be a viable healer but still solo and pvp effectively without respeccing three times a day. At 61 you'll have the talent points to have Holy Guidance 5/5 with a shift into Ret OR Holy Shock and Sanctity Aura. I opt for Sanctity Aura over Divine Illumination, this may come down to personal preference but for my own purposes the plus damage trumps the mana issue, but I have a ton of mana. You'll also want to get imp Seal of Righteousness as this will be a bread and butter damage output for you. No Seal of Command or Imp Might as your weapon damage will be crap, you should be sword and boarding. Your focus is spell damage and crit picking up as much int and stam as you can along the way.

My usual shockadin spec is something like this http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=sVvh0xzheoxZVfc0GMz which is more a focus on healing but only a couple of points could get moved around anyway IMO (like moving light's grace to cap SoR and grab Purifying Power or sliding a point from spiritual focus over to SoR).

CapJack has a couple of specs in his FAQ so I suggest looking at that as well.
