pet tankingFollow

I am just wondering what abilities my pet is supposed to use for holding threat. If you had a decision between claw and gore, which would you use tank? (and if you don't mind, I would love to hear the rational behind it).

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure every pet that can learn gore can't learn bite.. and for aggro use highest rank growl along with claw/bite or gore/bite.

I think you mean a decision between Gore and BITE.

As for holding aggro... use growl, bite and gore. Make sure that you always have the highest available rank of growl possible.

I'm probably just imagining things, but when I put Growl in the first slot on the left of the pet bar, it seems to get priority, and go off as soon as the cooldown is up or your pet has enough focus. Otherwise, your other auto-casted skills go off first- even though they tend to cost more focus.

This isn't any kind of supported theory that I know of, but it just seems to work for me.

I've heard of the priority issue, Midnight. I've just never noticed a difference when I retrain pets.

Go download and install Omen, hybrand. That will help you manage your threat and keep yourself under your pet's aggro to mostly solve that problem. You'll likely find you can not just throw every sting and special shot at the target while avoiding pulling aggro. Send in your pet and give him a second or two to fight solo before you start helping him out.

For pet abilities, you want the maximum level of growl available plus the maximum 'focus dump' attack skill, like gore, claw or bite. Put those on autocast. If your pet can use gore, that's best. If the decision is between claw and bite, go for bite. You need not train more than one attack skill. However if you find your pet's focus bar is always full during fights, then you should train a second attack skill. A full focus bar means some of it is going to waste.
