Hello. Prot pally doing heroes and kara whenever I can (my guild is in continual lfm mode because we're stuck in kara after curator and people leave guild instead of getting better). Anyway Got the 100 badge chest to replace the Jade-Skull Breastplate from Mech. I had the +15 defense on that one as I was building toward uncrush, but now I can get uncrush just changing out one ring when I need to. So which will help me better from an avoidance/heroics standpoint to help healers? The +15 def again or should I go with +6 stats? Basically how do the numbers break down so I can maximize my solo tanking durability to help healers?
#2REDACTED, Posted: Aug 16 2008 at 3:10 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) you know uncrush has nothing to do with def rating right?

Nit-pick, but no Defense rating does not lead to uncrush, but the avoidance granted by Defense rating does, so getting Defense rating does help you get closer to uncrush.

Enchant: +150 health would probably serve the best in your case, but don't get too comfortable with it. As you get better gear, you may have to switch back to +15 Defense to remain uncrush/uncrittable. Knowing this it may be wise to just go with that anyway for the time being, as it will also grant you more avoidance for those times Holy Shield is not up.

Too me it seems like 150 hp isn't much of anything (pretty sure it's less than any incoming damage i'll be taking). And I do realize that i may have to chant and rechant, as I've been doing that already to try and maximize avoidance/uncrush. Now that I'm not dependant on the +15 def, I was just wondering if +6 stats was better for avoidance, or if the +15 def was still the way to go in getting the most avoidance and hit taking I can.

The 150 health enchant: compare it to +6 stats which gives you only 60 health and pitiful avoidance (6 agility doesn't amount to much). If you're wanting an avoidance enchant, Defense is by far the best. Health, get the +150. +6 stats lies somewhere in between. I've been meaning to change my chest enchant to Defense, but have just been too lazy >.>

6 AGI = 0.24% Dodge
15 Defense Rating = 6.25 Defense Skill = 0.25% Block/Dodge/Parry/Miss = 1% to Uncrushable or 0.75% Pure Avoidence.

6 stats will get you 1/3 of the pure avoidence and 1/4 of block+avoidence that 15 Defense does. It will also give you a negligible amount of armor (agi), AP (str), crit, MP, Spell Crit, blah blah blah and 60 raw HP that CAN be modified by your built in Paladin bonuses such as talents and Kings. By memory (too lazy to do the math right now) that should put your HP bonus from 6 stats to 75 or 76.

150 HP is NOT modified by Sacred Duty, Combat Expertise, or Kings (since it gives you pure HP and not Stamina).

I would personally never even consider +6 stats. Even before 15 Defense was added it seemed like a gimmick to me compared to 150 HP. If 15 Defense had been available at the time, I would have used it straight through from level 70 to my first couple pieces of Tier 6 armor. Defense is something I can't seem to get rid of now, and I proudly don 150 HP.

Your mileage may vary though. You might see value in 6 stats.
