ALT profession, to support hunter MAIN?Follow

Ok.

My hunter main char has been successful as a character to play but, more specifically, with his skinning / leather-working too.

I do not want to change those professions on him, as I have been able to produce the "blinding reflexes" items - for shoulder and wrist - amongst a list of funky items.

What I would like to know is, keeping in mind that a lot of the best patterns produce Bind on Pickup items, which profession I could give to a miner - to produce the most complementary items for a hunter main?

In other words, which profession could create the most useful items - that it could then send to the hunter main? Engineering? Jewelcrafting?

A third alt will most likely be herbalism / alchemy, but it's the miner I would like to deal with now.

Which alt mining-based profession have people most wanted or, perhaps more importantly, got the most use from?

Thanks.

My own Druid "alt" had Mining/Jewelcrafting. This provided a decent income while providing my Hunter with all the gems she could ever want. However, if you PvP with your alt, I would go Engineering. The only thing it would provide for the Hunter would be Scopes, but Engineering is so much fun in PvP that I'd be willing to forgo the gems.

Right now she's JC/Enchanting though, getting the raw mats from the AH or vendors/drops instead of farming them herself.

If your alt is a Miner, definitely go JC. There aren't very many useful things for a hunter as an Engineer, aside from the Jumper Cables, Goggles, Mote extractors and the repair bots, but those require you to actually BE the engineer.

What you COULD do is drop skinning on your hunter, and take up engineering. On your alt, have Skinning and Mining. That way, you can farm all the mats on your alt, and have all the really awesome BoP items on your meain.

@ NorthAI the Hand

I had thought of going JC. It's good to have now read a couple of posts that concur.

@ ProjectMidnight

That would be something that I would consider, were it not for what I have read about gathering professions in the expansion (gaining stat bonuses, for your char, the further you develop them (crit for skinning, stamina for mining, etc)).

Or take up alechmy for your main (and get this nice little trinket which adds 40% to your manapot regen).
My main (hunter) has alchemy / leatherworking
My alt (druid) has mining / herbalism which generates a really nice income (ore still sells really well) and provides my main with all the herbs I need for those pots.

If you want to min/max, JC/Ench. If your guild doesnt have 4/5 people in every group doing a drum rotation, go JC/LW. If you can't get a SPriest, shaman for totem, or Ret pally for JoW, and don't want to use haste potions, go LW/Alch. For money, herb/mining, or mining/jc or herb/jc.

Skinning and Herbalism for your alt, Alch and LW for your hunter.
You can replace the herb and alch by mining and JC/enchanting/engineering.

I'd probably still go for alch though because of the sexy trinket.

I don't suggest changing professions because of the large expense required to level up a new one. I have one of each class with at least one of each profession. They've all got the unusual patterns, blueprints, recipes, etc. since I spent the time farming those.

However if money is no object, I'd change your hunter to enchanter / jewelcrafter. That nice jewelcrafter only trinket plus the ability to enchant your rings will likely give an edge in PvP. You'll need alts to feed raw materials to your hunter or you'll go broke.

Alchemy powerlevel is pretty cheap nowadays. I did for about 1000g and I didn't shop for bargain prices, just bought the crap off of AH. The trinket does set you back quite a bit though. The benefit I did not see when doing this is you can make some decent cash in Alchemy with little effort. Transmute earthstorm diamond is 70-150g profit(if you get the gem cut it can be 150g) for 30sec of effort. Even more if you are a master and get a proc.

Go alchemy the trinket is awesome and you won't lose money dumping skinning(unless you are a leather farmer, which is not worth the time) If skinning becomes a huge money maker in WoTLK use alt or roll DK for skinning.
