Mana IssuesFollow

#1 Aug 15 2008 at 4:03 AM Rating: Decent
Hello All,

This is me:

http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Burning+Steppes&n=Rethel

I am raiding SSC / TK and first two bosses in MH.

I am doing good dps but having mana issues, hence the aspect of viper buff.

Any suggestions on what I can do with gear to improve without gimping dps. Or is this the norm?

Of course I use pots etc but not helping enought for me.

Forgot to post, I am BM of course :) and using Manito 3:2 rotation.

Cheers

My gear and stats are very comparable to yours and I have the same problem. My experience is that it's always a problem on the longer fights. I chain chug mana pots, but still run into issues. I think part of the issue is how Blizzard tuned the fights. They were tuned knowing people would be chain chugging pots.

The only question I have...are you using mana oil? You said you're using flasks, etc., but just checking. Every little bit helps.

But overall, mana is an issue on all the longer fights, in my experience.

Unrelated question: Why don't you have 3/3 in Ferocious Inspiration?

I dual-wield with Mana Oils, use Elixir of Major Mageblood, and Chain-chug Fel mana potions while standing next to a mana spring totem, and I can still OoM near the end of a fight.

It's just part of being a hunter. If you're having issues, drop down to a normal 1:1 rotation until you get stable mana.

PS: Throw away that shard of comtempt. It makes hunters look bad. Get a Bloodlust Brooch instead.

In order to maximize the benefits of the fel mana potions, switcht to aspect of the viper and stop doing anything that uses mana for five seconds before chugging one. I typically just use autoshot. That'll get your spirit regeneration to kick in. Continue not using mana until the mana recharge from the fel mana pot wears off. When I do this, I can go from 20% mana to a full mana bar. Afterwards I'll switch back to aspect of the hawk and full DPSing. I've not needed more than one fel mana pot per boss fight using that technique with dual mana oils on my weapons.

7 minutes and 3 fel mana pots into Gruul and I go OOM. It's normal. Sometimes you'll just have to stop shooting for a while.

20 seconds of no casting and I'm around 1500 mana again. That's enough mana to get back to normal long enough for the next potion.

Try to beg a paladin to judge wisdom, or to get put in a shadow priest's group, or a resto shaman's group and ask him for mana tide.

Edit: I run Viper the whole fight because I'm specced SV without IAotH. I plan to change to IAotH-SV now that I'm done in BGs and can feel safe without Wyvern and Scatter.

Be sure to go 7/20/34, FF is more useful than TotH.

I don't see how people manage to go completely OoM all the time.

Groundrules to keep up Steady:

1. Chug the pot as soon as you can get the full effect of it. Don't use it too soon or you'll waste half of it. Use it too late and you will have less mana to spend the next two minutes.
2. Mana Oils. They are cheap (comparably, a raidwipe due to low dps is more expensive really...) and will have an impact.
3. AotV at 30% mana. It's around there that AotV really packs a manaregen punch. Before that, it doesn't really do all that much.
4. Never let a single second go by without having a pot on Cooldown, unless it would waste it. Keeping yourself topped up makes sure you have that much more to go on until the cd is up again.
5. Get Wisdom over Salvation. Unless you are **** out of luck, Feign will deal with threat.
6. Fuck Stings and Arcane/Multi unless you've got the mana regen of an Innervated Resto Druid. Or Surv Hunter...

This is so freakin' simple! Granted, I'm not in BT/Sunwell at the moment, since I've spent the last six months working on my real life projects, but throughout TK, SSC and ZA at least, I've never run out of mana unless the raid goes retarded on me. There's close calls when you forget to switch to AotV those last few seconds before Pot is back up, but it's hardly enough to make it into a problem.

Please explain how that is a benefit. Whether your spirit-based mana regen kicks in doesn't effect the potion at all. You'll get 3200 Mana no matter what (exception being alchemy trinket). It's pointless to stop casting while the effects of fel mana pots are up. The whole point of using pots is AVOIDING any wasted time.

Just use your first potion as soon as you're 2500 mana down, and pop one every cooldown after that.

1: Fel mana potions.
2: mana oils
3: use elixirs instead of a flask (major mageblood is another 16 Mp5)

Or, get proper raid/group synergy and tell your raidleader to get a retadin.

Mana problems as a hunter?
The only time I experience mana problems is against Eredar Twins as we use the first two pot-cooldowns for FR pots and even that fight is manageable mana-wise.

I play as a SV hunter either with 5/20/36 or 7/20/34. Both specs include improved hunters mark and as I'm the support-***** in our raid I put scorpid sting on the boss (that is, if the tank is hit hard, most of BT I do without scorpid sting nowadays).

But a few solutions to mana problems:

- Use mana oil on weapon(s) (if you are not in Sunwell, there you want that nice weapon coating), use mageblood/agi elixiers
- Get a pally put judgement of wisdom on the boss and you will never have any problems with going oom ever.
- This is much easier if you raid with a retadin, but can be done by a protection pally or a holy pally on most encounters without great difficulty.
- Get a resto shaman in your group. Mana spring and tide totems will solve your mana problems if you keep chain potting mana pots (I exclusively use super mana pots, fel mana pots I do not need at all).
- Leatherworkers do have manareg-drums as well. So if you are stuck within a healer group you might use manareg-drums instead of the haste drums (600mana per LW per 2min, thats 25mp5 per LW in your group which adds up quite nicely).
