Resto/Enh or Resto/Ele?Follow

I started a shaman with the intention of it being my healing toon. Currently I'm level 58 and I'll probably hit Outland around 60-61.

I'm going resto for healing in groups. However I don't want to level and solo quests with this spec. My plan is to go with a good solo dps spec while lfg and then respec to resto to heal when I get invites. The question is whether that spec should be enh or ele. I leveled with enhance and really like it. I like not being so mana dependent. I'm not worried about carrying around extra gear sets.

So what are the pros and cons with switching resto and enhance vs resto and ele?

Enhancement has all the hype about being fastest, of course. I imagine resto/ele would probably share some of the same gear, though. Whether that matters a whole lot is up to you, as long as you can decide whether you want the resto or enhancement quest reward from such-and-such. If you both like enhancement and realize that it's the recommended leveling spec, then I can't see why you shouldn't go resto/enh, personally. I'm not a shaman, though.

Hey Mental. My Shammy alt is sitting at 62 atm and is an enhanced shammy. If you plan on respeccing everytime to resto for when you instance then I would go enhanced. Yes your gear will mesh better if you went Ele/resto, but you said that you didnt mind carring around two sets of gear. I just dont think I would find spaming LB and CLB that much fun, personally id much rather be triple WF critting with my shocks and Bad-assness.

Plus ive heard that Ele is a mana ***** and I hate mana whores. LOL

Hope this steers you in the "Right" direction =)) haha.

Honestly if you keep up in gear and have some mana pots handy you can probably heal instances without respecing, resto does make healing easier but pre 70 you can be any spec and heal with gear and knowledge of the instance your running.

other then that it is preference, do you want to be a warrior with lower armor and heals or do you want to be a mage with higher armor and heals but no aoe and cc.

Actually I had no problem at all with mana when I respecced to elemental at 60. To each their own though. I was tired of "in-your-face" fighting since I had my rogue, so elemental was a nice change.

And, Mental, as others said above, Ele & Resto do use, pretty much the same gear, so that's more bag space for you, but honestly, If you're willing to switch to resto every time you heal, why don't you just give both specs a try?

I am leveling my first healing class (Shaman - 68 atm) and I was healing instances in HFP and CFR fine as Elemental Spec with healing gear, but Auch was giving me problems since I am still getting used to being a healer and not a mage. So I respecced full Resto.

I can quest just fine as full resto with elemental gear, my damage output is still half decent and with earthshield and water shield mana and health are usually not a probelm.

If you are getting pounded pop ES, if you are running out of mana pop WS :)

It's my healing alt. I have every intention of going full resto. And I've heard that argument for shadow priests as well but that doesn't mean I want to heal with one. The only reason to respec back and forth is for soloing quests. Sure I can solo it as resto but it's slower. Eventually it might get to the point where it's acceptable for me, just like my prot warrior that I never respec. The biggest problem I have with soloing as resto isn't so much the killing speed but being more mana dependent, which killing speed can increase that dependency. That's also why I'm leaning towards enh instead of ele.

Here are most of my toons:

70 Warrior - tank
70 Rogue - melee dps
70 Spriest - dps/util
62 Hunter - ranged dps
60 Shaman - heal
40 Mage - ranged magic dps

I've already gotten used to carrying around extra gear sets with my warrior and priest. It doesn't bother me. Also they're adding in extra gear sets in the future, possibly wotlk, so bag space isn't an issue anyways. Money on respeccing isn't an issue either. All of my 70's have a netherdrake. My 3rd 70 had her flying epic as soon as she dinged.

With this range of classes I'll have dps/cc/heals/tank for whichever the group needs at the moment. That and I love the different play styles.

When WOTLK comes out it'll be the best time ever to be a healer. There's going to be so many DK's for dps and tanking that healers will be begged to come along, and nobody will be competing for your gear drops (minus pally plate).
