I was just wondering about sticking around at 69 for some honor grinding. I know from my main how painful the 70 bracket can be. Ive got 4 pieces of dreadweave (1 point of shatar rep from 5) to give me a jumpstart on pvp at 70, but im not sure. Do you guys think I should stay behind or go ahead and get to 70 and start the grind?

Depending on your battlegroup.... If you can reliably win half of the time (or so) at 69 then sit there for a bit and grind marks, but don't worry about honor so much.

At 70 certain Marks of Honor can be tougher to get due to excessive loses. For example, in my battlegroup, WSG and EotS are usually losing games, so only 1 mark per losing match. Whereas AV is mostly wins, so 3 marks per win. EotS isn't exactly a Honor machine like AV can be, so grinding EotS at 70 is far more time-consuming than AV for me in my battlegroup. Your millage may vary. But at 69 EotS was far more even... almost perfectly 50/50.

Anyway, I had a very simple list of the basic gear pieces I was after when I hit 70 with the number of marks I needed for each.... I just did as many different matches as I needed marks and the honor came with was kinda bonus in my mind. Remember though, you can only keep 100 of each kind of mark in the bank (you can have more in the mail).

When I hit 70 then, all I needed was honor which was easiest (for me) in AV on it's holiday weekend. Combine that with doing the PvP daily ("extra" marks can be turned in for honor) and my lock was sitting pretty in some new shinies and ready to head into the 70 BGs. Well, he still needs a lot of work, but...

So my list of what to get (in order) was:
cheap trink
weapons: main, off, wand
vindicators wrist, rings
guardians belt, neck
better trinket
set items (to replace the Blue Rep PvP set items)

I think I ended up going for at least 50 of each mark in the 69 bracket. And it made the rest of the grind much easier.

NOTE:
I am NOT telling anyone to do it my way or that these are the ONLY gear pieces worth getting, etc.... Actually I'm planning on pushing haste. But this was my basic list I worked with during the 69 grind.

Hope that wall of text helps... Happy hunting.

Thanks therion, very informative. I actually already have the cheap trinket because this toon used to be a 39 twink til I read up on SoC. In my battlegroup at 69 its a lil bit harder to get a game, but when we do, horde seems to win at a hovering 65% or so. I think I'll stick around for all but the set.

Call me crazy, but I'm fairly certain that everyone 60-70 is in the same bracket. I know I've been in an AV lately on my 70 druid when someone was whining because a level 64 was in the group.

Yes and no.

AV is 61-70.
AB, EotS and WSG are all 60-69, then 70.

The upside to grinding your marks at 69 instead of 70 is that you're likely to eventually be overloaded with AV marks while you're grinding honor, and you actually get xp in AV, so it makes it worthwhile to get all the other marks beforehand.

My battlegroup, it's a bit difficult to win anything but AV alliance side, and EotS is about 65/35 in favor of horde. Lately for WSG and AB, we've had people literally set up premades in order to lose, so grinding marks, much less honor, in either of those bgs is pretty much a waste of time. Personally, I like grinding honor in EotS mostly just because I like the bg, but AV is more worthwhile (and fun in its own right when I'm healing on my shaman).

I'd get all the non-set pieces and the good trinket (the one for 22k honor and 10 EotS marks) before hitting 70, though, to answer the OP's question.
