Lots of Outland (noob?) QuestionsFollow

#1 Aug 13 2008 at 6:41 AM Rating: Decent
Hi all

I have some questions concerning my warrior .

I have a human warrior at 66 as a main character and im fighting my way through outlands.
My spec is Protection with very little points spend in arms.
The type of armour I m using is Fell Iron set meaning that I m wearing all of it or most of it to get all bonus effects
it can provide. I have the Footman's Longsword sword and I have the Outland Shield

1st question is : Is this armour any good for the level I am ? If not please provide me with some info with what should I wear plz also it has been said that we should have 2 sets of armour: one for soloing and one for tanking. Since I dont have gold to buy anything more than 190 gold (this much I have) is this statement valid? I did almost anything I could from quests...

2nd question is : The equipment I have offers like 9000 + I think armour and about 1200 attack power an about 8000 health. All that with some cheap rings and amulets. What should I keep in mind more when I buy stuff from AH? ( meaning resilience ,expertise ,defence rating, If am to be an effective tank . I know very little about these things )

3rd question is : Since I m new to the game I dont know my ways around outlands. So I ve done almost all quests of Honor Hold and Zangarmarsh. Where am to go next? Meaning whats the best place for xp+money...

4rth question is : When I form a group and go to instances it seems quite difficult to multi tank all mobs pulled .Should I allways have by my side a druid or a pally just in case? When I have one of these classes with me I have noticed that I do better.

5th question : I would like to know all the cc (Croud control) classes that exist in the game. I know that rogue SAP 's and that the mage polymorphs and that hunters trap .The other classes confuse me a bit. Can someone tell me what each class can do under wich conditions ( meaning rogues can sap humanoids only)? I like to give good lead to my party.

6th question /Raids : I know little about raids exept that they give nice items. Any info on that? Meaning how to enter one raid ,how many people involved ,all the people involved are of same guild ? stuff like that.

7 th question : Some people ( all ?) have faster mounts than me. How much this mounts cost? I heard like 600 gold. Is this valid? Where will I be able to buy this when I get the money?Ny mount is from 40 lvl.

8th question/macros : How does macro works?I heard that you can make your life easier by letting pc do standard attack repeatable moves .I would like some info on that. Also I would like someone to tell me a macro that does these 2 things when I enter a fight : Cast shield block and then Revenge and again cast shield block and again Revenge... in a loop. Then a second macro with Blood rage+sunder armour+shield block +sunder+shield block+sunder .... in loop.

Thanks in advance to anyone that bothers to enter a comment or two on anything he/she finds easy to answer.

This one is one of the easier ones. You really don't need an OT until you start raiding 10-25 man runs. You need to learn to use the raid markers, those are quick ways to let the party know what you want them to do.
Ex:
Star = Sap (for the Rogue)
Moon = Sheep (for the mage)
Blue Box = Freeze trap (for the Hunter)
etc etc etc

Oh, which means you'll need to get familiar with what forms of CC (crowd control) there are. You'll get the parties where they'll say "ZOMG let's just run thru this place!!!", that's up to you... but we're not pallies... we can hold 1 mob really really well, we can tank 4 mobs from going after the healer by spamming T.Clap... but if a DPS hits the T. Clap only mob... he'll more than likely get aggro and die. Then you have to wait for him to get rez'd then rebuffed... all and all just CC the mobs lol.

Question 1 & 2
Gear will come... what I've done with all 3 of my toons was just quest in your quest rewards, picking up items as you go. Then I usually hit instances when I hit 70. As a Warrior I basically knew it would be easy to get into a group as a Prot Warrior... so I hit 70, finished up w/e area quests I wanted, respec'd and hit the lower instances for gear/rep.

question 3
If you have Cartographer addon or any kind of map addon, it should tell you the level ranges for each Outland zone. After the Marsh, I usually hit T. Forest or Nagrand, then off to Shadowmoon valley. I also liked Bladesedge for questing... but I'm hordie, so not sure where you allies are hiding =P

question 5 (main ones anyway)
I'm guessing you never partied much getting to the Outlands?
-Rogues -Sap (humaniod only)*out of combat ability only!* So wait for him to sap then pull.
-Mages -Sheep. Humaniod and Beast
-Priest -Shackle. Undead only
-Hunters -Freeze trap. Basically works on everything lol.
-Warlocks -Seduce, Banish, Enslave. With Succubus they have a charm (seduce - Humaniod), Banish - elemental, enslave- Demon. ***I may be wrong... not really familiar with the whole Lock bag-o-tricks. (I always have to ask the group lol)

question 6
Raids are 10-25 man instances. After you hit 70 and get Heroic ready gear, start looking for a guild that is currently running/farming Karazan (KZ), I say after because as a tank if you're not at least Heroic ready you'll get killed quick in there, unless you have a good MT and you just OT. That'll be the 1st raid you'll hit, then off to Gruul/Magg, mixed in with ZA, then up to SSC/TK, then off to BT/MH. lol sorry for abv., but you'll know what those mean when the time comes.

/sigh... that's all I feel like typing at work =P

Hi.

I too levelled in Outlands as a Prot warrior and felt very unsure about my gear. At level 66 you don't want to be buying stuff off the AH as you'll certainly want as much cash as you can for your flying mount at lvl 70, and all your gear will certainly be obsolete then. Simply quest away and keep anything better that comes your way from rewards or drops.

I wouldn't also worry about the two sets of armour yet, either. As prot you wouldn't be doing much more damage with a dps set, and if you were constantly respeccing you'd never have much money. Simply carry on as you are and worry about the second armour set when you hit 70.

I'd agree with Terokkar forest as being next on your hit list. I enjoyed levelling there and there are some nice quest rewards also. See if you enjoy it, and if not there's also Nagrand (a little bit higher level than TF - see http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/levelchart.html)

Multi tanking is more tricky with a warrior than a druid or pally. Just try your best, read the tanking guides and keep trying. As long as you don't do anything stupid then the rest of your group should expect you to occasionally have problems keeping threat on lots of mobs. Use an effective system to mark the kill order and ensure the healers or casters don't run away if they gain aggro.

Crowd control - been answered already with the omission of:
Druids can entangle (outdoors only) and can also hibernate (animals only).

Raids - wait til lvl 70. Very few people try the lower level raids nowadays.

Faster mounts - they were available at lvl 60. See your riding trainer (costs 900 gold minus rep discount I think, it's been a while). Then buy a mount. The cheapest way is with BG tokens and it costs no honor so you can save that for something else.

The macros you describe won't work. Macros will try to cast everything one after the other. Things on cooldown won't work. Read the warrior threads as they contain some useful macros.

that is a lot more AP than i have with my tanking set. although it's nice for your soloing/dps set, getting that much AP on your tanking gear means you are giving up real tanking stats.
at level 66, you should have 10-11k health and 10k or so armor. AP is pretty useless while you are tanking. the stats you want (at your level) are stamina, stamina, armor, stamina, defense, stamina, dodge, stamina, and stamina.

the fel iron set is ok, but you should be getting upgrades from the instances you are doing. if you are protection spec'd, you should spend most of your time tanking instances, not questing - you will not learn how to be a good tank while questing. also, some of the blue instance drops you will start getting are quite good for your first level 70 "i got 490 defense" set.

post an armory link if you want specific suggestions.

hit thunderclap on every cooldown. at 66, you should have enough talent points to get improved thunderclap which makes a big difference.

Clarifications/Additions:

Hunters - Freeze trap is best used on melee mobs. Only very skilled hunters can do this on caster/ranged mobs (i.e. via LoS or running up to mob and trapping it in place).

Warlocks - Banish works on demons and elementals. The banished mob can not be un-banished, and it is immune to all damaging effects. You have to wait for it to time out. This can be funny when everyone is trying to damage the banished mob. :) Either way, keep your taunt ready to go the second it comes out of Banish.

Druids - Hibernate - works on beasts. I keep forgetting this one too, as do most Druids. "Oh yeah, I forgot I can do that" :)

There is a tanking guide on here I forgot the name but look for it and read it. The guide will show you how to tank. When in an instance with 5 man, you want to mark them. skull= 1st mob hit X=2nd and so on. Make sure dps only hits the mark you are currently on and no other marks. You will want to pull the mobs, for example, if your using a bow or gun you would shoot skull and as the mob comes to you i use demoralizing shout to grab initial threat then thunderclap. One thing about thunderclap, make sure your away from CC before usin it or you will break cc. As I and the dps are hititng on skull, at about 3/4 of its health gone i switch to my next mark to get a head of the dps in threat. This is just a basic tanking procedure i do in 5 mans. Are you in a guild? If not try to get into one and work with some of the tanks and healers, you can learn a lot from them.
