The Affect On Endgame Raids?Follow

#1 Aug 12 2008 at 7:03 PM Rating: Sub-Default
Anyone have any thoughts on Endgame raiding for a Deathknight, apologies if there already is a topic on this, i would just like to see some opinions.

Personally i envision there being a decline in healing and buffing classes such as mages/hunters/shamans as the amount of Deathknight toons increases.

This increase in tanking/dps toons will collaborate in further complaints from nigh enough all the other classes as they are being outdone in their fields of combat by a new toon available over halfway through the plane of levels.

The affect on endgame raiding will ultimately be a decline in healing/dps classes as the deathknight proves to be the dominant class with everyone trying out the new playstyle and yearning for its armour.

Please bear in mind my personal opinion is not based on experience with a deathknight but rather based on the assumption that a class with plate will be able to dps and tank (warriors?) but has no major healing capabilitlies similar to that of a paladin.

Discuss?

As it stands, Death Knights specced into Blood Aura have a passive healing abilities. Essentially, Blood Aura take any healing that a Death Knight receives and applies 100% to every member in the party/raid.

Combine this with the fact that they already get some (minor) healing from damage done, and the ability to spawn bloodworms (Little worms the attack enemies, giving you an insane amount of healing), and you have quite a formidable ally.

No. As it stands, a Death Knight with a good healer would be plenty for a ten-man. The other classes are going to have plenty of new toys to bring to the raid, the death knight will not represent the end all of DPS classes. We do not know WHAT is involved with the planned end-game data, beta testers included. Blessing of Might/Wisdom, Power Word: Fortitude, Curse of Elements (or is it Shadow now...), Improved Scorch, are all going to be wanted in raids, especially with the way they're being revamped.

CoE will increase all non holy damage by 10%; Improved Scorch will increase Frost, Fire and Arcane damage by 10% if fully stacked; you're telling me raids are NOT going to want these buffs?

There's also that Nature/Arcane damage increase from Moonkin too ;)

Passive healing abilities are a fair point.

But bloodworms are not viable for raid healing. Pretty much all bosses have an AOE and with the bloodworms healing not scaling with level, the healing capabilities of a bloodworm would be minimal. Combined with how easy they are to kill.

You mean like how shamans are now the dominate class for alliance and paladin are for horde?

A lot of players, almost everyone, will try a deathknight. Just because they start at a higher level doesn't mean they'll become the dominant class. There will be tons of them at first, just like shaman and paladins when BC went live. However it'll die down and even back out as players resort back to their previous class choices. Some will also switch to DK as their main. DK are not for everyone just like any other class. Some will like it and some will hate it.

That's a pretty stupid assumption that a tank/dps class is going to drop healing/dps classes, especially in end-game raids. Without proper heals your group/raid isn't going to get anywhere. Without proper tanking your group/raid isn't going to get anywhere. Without proper dps your group/raid isn't going to get anywhere. No class will fill all three of those roles the best. If that ever does happen then Blizzard has lost the class balance game. There is no dominate class. Blizzard has to keep the order of balance maintained. If you mean that DK will be the most populated class then I more than welcome them that way. Why? Because Hunters have had that position for years.

DK population will spike but it'll eventually average out with the other classes. Exactly like alliance shamans and horde paladins did. It's just the latest craze but without the other classes to fill their roles then people will eventually get sick of not finding any healers or buff or cc , etc classes to fill the other roles in the group.

I wouldn't worry about it.

You made my point. I would appreciate it if you didn't call my assumptions stupid.

Why not? Your assumptions that death knight = the end of healing, buffing, and DPS are indications that you chose the correct user name (except that it should end in a 'd').
