I also wanted to ask all you tanks what you think.

So Im not as gung ho for raidding as I used to be when I first hit Karazhan (time contraints mainly). I have been spending a majority of my time in Heroics.

So, the other night a call goes out in guild for a healer spot on Hex lord. I say that I can go and have the available time. With +1820 to heals I still have a bit to go before I would feel comfortable going into ZA normally, but the guild asked and I said sure.

I had to respecc to get COH as that is the main reason they needed me. Also, remeber this is my first time seeing Hex Lord so I'm not familliar with the fight.

They have already cleared all mobs up to Hex lord so I figured they had wiped a few times prior and people left and this is a second recruitment for another try. My duties for the fight, as they where explained to me, would be to heal the raid through shadow bolts and to keep the undead mob shackled, along with healing Main Tanks as needed.

Another mob was being CC'ed via Banish from one of our Locks. I died a few times to that damn banished mob coming out of Banish =(.

So here is where I was having the problem. I would try to throw a shackle on the undead target just prior to Shadow Bolts, then I would COH the raid and then top off tanks and then try to reshackle, rinse and repeat. A few times shackle broke real early and I wasnt able to reshackle. A few times I died from Rain of Fire =(. I think most of the other people at the raid had all been there before.

So we didnt down boss and at the end in Vent I hear everyone blaming the whole thing on not being able to shackle properly. I felt bad but then also know that a holy priests shackle isnt the most reliable spell. Was I just to much of a noob in ZA to be healing Hex Lord? What did i do so drastically wrong so that I dont do it again.

Any critizism would be appreciated.

If you die from mobs that are supposed to be Banished, and the ONLY blame you... I'd say you need not pay much heed to what they said.

blaming you makes them sound like noobs, like the above post said, its not your fault the lock cant keep banish up, and if they want a holy priest for a shackle that they need to depend on thats not a very good thing either, it was your first time also, so they should have been more easy going and understanding. I wouldnt say your a noob or anyhting, just not familiar with the fight, which is something everyone goes through. <dr. phil> so dont feel bad, its fine, you didnt do anyhting wrong </dr. phil>

I had the misfortune to use my Druid to spot raid heal that fight lol. My +healing is 1111 tops =P (oh, if you look at my armory lol, I got my "Caster DPS" weapon and Off hand on", it's the only things I have for dailies (it's a total Alt toon... my main is my warrior). I did well... at 1st there was no problem, but after so long his Bolt will just be too powerful to heal thru. There is no 10 minute enrage timer for that fight for a reason... if you're there 10 minutes he's going to eat your group up.

Honestly, not saying that it's a horrible choice, but having a Priest spot heal for that fight, I'm sure it's been done a lot. I just know from being a way undergeared Druid ToL healer that I had no problem keeping LBs on the raid and not running OOM, rejuv towards the end of the fight due to more damage being thrown out... Also the other 2 healers assisted, did yours?

Lol, maybe you should have thrown up a lightwell and let them get their own heals. (Not familiar with to much priesty heals) I do know that renew? the HoT heal would drain your mana super fast... and having 7-9 people all taking pretty good damage at the same time would certinally drain your mana fast.

Now for the Shack.... How do you shack your mob? Do you have a focus macro or anything? or do you just try to keep your screen centered on him and click the icon to shack? Just asking. If you're a clicker... I'd suggest getting a shack macro. Another thing is... maybe bubble your self if the mob breaks shack during a bolt? Might give you the chance to reshack.

Anyway.... They should not have pointed fingers. It could have been the DPS was lacking, and did not bring them down fast enough. Or the Leaders should have said after the 1st time, Ok we'll kill that Shack, then focus on Hex lord. They just wanted a escape goat.

We killed the Hex Lord yesterday, and my opinion is that asking a priest to do raid healing, tank healing and shackling is just too much. Both from being just too busy, and running out of mana. The primary CC should come from DPS classes, who can interrupt whatever they do and CC again freely. Kill the adds that require healer CC first, and let them focus on healing. Then it goes smoothly.

I can totally feel your pain about all those blames. My first time on that fight with my mage made me get focus macro asap. It's perfect cc tool also in heroics and a must in raids. That is not easy fight for first timers. So much has to be taken care of and for first timers there should be only 1 job instead of 3 (well maybe 2 if ya count dps).

I kinda try to understand people getting frustrated after several wipes but calling blames and pointing fingers is hardly a way to keep raiders happy and keep'em signing on progression raids. One more time, if you don't have that macro just get it as it'll save many wipes in future and u feel more stress free.

when my guild does hex lord we generally have a shammy, pally, or druid on tank heal, with the priest on shackle/CoH duty exclusively. your guild was just....i dunno, being ***** i guess. boneheaded ***** (har har).
