Hey there everyone. Recently, I've been hearing talk and many different opinions on the other branches of melee DPS.

Now, it's my personal opinion that rogues are the highest form of Melee DPS available in the game, but I was kind of wondering about the opinions of you, all of my rogue buddies that frequent these forums.

These are just my opinions on each of the other classes capable of Melee DPS... So far I just get the feeling that they're all really there to make our DPS oh somuch higher. Rogues having little to offer a raid other than fantastic Damage output, I guess it makes sense. I keep hearing that "Oh warriors > rogues" and "Rogues are nothing without <Class here>" but for the longest time, It's usually been me and the other rogues in raid that are the top 3-4 in damage done. After having had to listen to "Rogues are a do-nothing class, all they do is spam SS" I had enough.

Fury/Arms Warrior: Inferior when it comes to single-target fights (as such, most bosses) though having their place against large number of multiple targets (whirlwind) with a decent AP buff available to us.

Enhance Shaman: Also lackluster in terms of their own DPS but I won't deny that I absolutely love Windfury.

Feral Druid: Once again, Their own DPS is mostly lacking but they offer buffs that pushes our DPS through the roof.

Retribution Paladin: I feel they really lack DPS still, even with recent buffs to the class, Their aura is nice, but still lacking.

Having had to listen to most of this nonsense these past few weeks, I want to know what YOU all think about the other Melee DPS classes/specs. Your opinions on their damage output and even raid buffs made available.

What could put Class A ahead of Rogues? And why will class B never be as good as a rogue? I want your input.

I thank you all in advance.

Your feelings on ret paladins is plain wrong, period.

Every good sunwell guild has a ret paladin.

If you're talking PvE, then I would say Enhancement Shaman is your best bet. While they may not be as high as rogues, they can still dish out massive DPS once they hit lvl 40.

If you're talking PvP, then I would say not Enhancement Shaman. While there are some Enhance Shamans who kick *** in Arena, most don't.

These days I'm usually about tied with our slightly weaker geared Rogue and beaten by a bit by our better geared Rogue as a Fury Warrior. In terms of absolute raid contribution that means I win, by the way; Battle Shout is a pretty significant buff, and it hits a pure melee group for what can be more or less defined as 'win'. On the other hand, having two Fury Warriors is if not pointless at least somewhat wasted, and that's true of most of the other melee classes.

Enhancement Shaman come usually one to a raid, since there's typically only one melee group and their buff is wasted if used on a different group. Feral Druids can be used in multiples (Hunter Group and Melee Group) but end up brought primarily as a tank first and DPS second by most sane raid groups. Retadins are useful for their aura but brought much, much more significantly for Crusader Strike; the SW healing requirements are often such that you can't have the Paladins waste time judging things more than once, and it is a large DPS boost for the raid to keep up JoW/JotC 100% of the time. On the other hand, bringing two really isn't that smart - their DPS is, if not awful, certainly not top tier. They come in mostly for support.

Rogues are the only pure melee DPS class, the only one you want to have multiples of (exception; Warriors, since you probably want one Arms and one Fury).

RP summed it up. I was too lazy to post all of my thoughts last night, but he's absolutely right.

In my t5/6 raid we often have both a enhance shammy and a retadin. Those times that they're in my party (tight melee, group 5 FTW!) it's a happy, happy raid.

As far as retadins are concerned... go look up Improved Seal of the Crusader.... oh, good times!

Nuh uh!

There was that one time...uh...

Smiley: cry

Edit: this begs the question, "what happens when RPZip and Theo disagree on something?"

I guess that question would be considered an opinion, then. Smiley: wink

Egos of that magnitude going up against each other never ends well, wars have started over less I'm sure. So my guess is the forum will implode (just sounds better than explode) and I'll give it a 54.3 % chance of taking everything on the internet with it.
