Just wondering what is a "smarter"/quicker way to do things. Here is my dilemna. Do i get a level 70 owl with Dive 3 and then have to train it in claw 9 AND screech 5, OR do i get a level 66 or 67 owl and have to train it only in dive 3? Now on 1 hand u have a fully leveled pet with more training to do (and a great looking skin might i add) yet on the other you have a pet that just needs 1 more type of training and a few more levels to maximize effectiveness in a PvP/BG's (gotta love that screech). Just need some thoughts here. I am obviously 70 but still very new to the game comparted to some of you "master" hunters who have probably..choke slammed me on quite a few occassions.

Any input is appreciated..

The "Smarter"/quicker way would obviously be to get the level 66 or 67 owl. However this is your pet that you're going to have until the expansion I imagine, so really it's up to you how much you want to work for your pet. If you tame a bird that's possibly level 30 for example, you're going to have to level him up through higher level instances or just run around grinding on mobs that are green or higher to you.

This choice is really yours, do you want Polly (with the great looking skin you want), or would you settle for the molting bird that no one touches but only tames because it's the highest equivalent?

*Edit*
Btw Screech isn't exactly helping a lot in PVP/BG's, it's just annoying to hear is all =P

What a shame that Polly as "perty" as she is is gonna get one in the noggin from the ole "Don Santos" =) Maybe she'll make a tasty soup. I guess i'll keep my cat, go level my Dino (69) and go find that ugly bird with the nasty disposition, and not so attactive appearance for maximum carnage. I truly appreciate your help.

Tame whichever pet you think looks the best. At level 70 with "Best Friend" loyalty, they all have the same amount of training points.

What I did when I was on an owl kick (I didn't keep it for very long, because screech annoyed the HELL out of me), was I went out to Nagrand, tamed Gutripper for the skills, abandoned, and then tamed the owl that I DID want (Shadowwing Owl).

Either way... If I wanted to keep Gutripper, I would have had to find a pet with Dive 3- so it would have been a 2-tame ordeal not matter what.

I actually enjoy screech (tells me my pets still alive) as odd as that may be. Taming Gutripper has to be a pain. Isnt it immune to frost or freeze traps? I had the level 70 Skettis Kalari (awesome skin) but it seemed (after about 6 hours in the area 52/shadowmoon areas) it was still at loyalty lvl 1. How the heck could i get a level 70 pet and get is loyalty to increase at an acceptable rate? Heck all i need is 29 training points to teach it screech 5.

Use your new pet to do dailys. Whenever I get a new pet thats what I do. It takes about 3 days of doing 20 or so dailys for me and the pet is maxed out or close to it. Also, claw AND screech is not the best combo to take. Both are focus dumps, which means your bird will always be extra focus starved and you will end up losing dps because of it. What I mean here is, claw does good damage, Screech doesnt, your pet will be trying to use both as much as it can and neither will be used to max effect. Not enough clawing for lower dps than just claw, and not enough screeching for lower threat and the debuff wearing off. One way to counter this is to use Screech while soling and claw when dps is needed. Another solution is to get a Carrion bird, slightly lower dps but you can train them Screech and Bite. Plus a carrion bird has an innate armor bonus which makes it a lil tougher for soloing/grinding.

As for a PvP pet..... If you are a NE then a cat with prowl is very anoying. Otherwise you can try a scorpid, they arent very fast but they have a dot which makes our viper sting very effective (meaning, hard to remove). If that isnt your cup of soup, there is always a ravager or cat. Very good pets, with focus dumps and cobra reflexes they can really knock back some casting and do good damage.

I have both claw and screech on my bird. However I'll turn one or the other off depending on the situation. My carrion bird is my farming pet. He typically gets pulled out of the stable to run old world dungeons where he has to tank multiples. I'll turn off claw and turn on screech for multiples. Where he's only fighting one mob or after a few screeches where the extras are firmly aggroed on my bird, screech is turned off and claw is on. If a pet heal pulls aggro to me, I'll feign and manually hit screech a few times or send the pet at the mob that peeled off to me.

Smack, that fist loyalty level can seem like a very long time coming. Feed it to make it happy and fight with it a while. Eventually it'll level. There was one person who posted in this forum a while back who's pet apparently was bugged and didn't level. I've never had that problem. If you think you do, contact a GM in game.
