Fun from beta...Follow

#1 Aug 11 2008 at 12:11 AM Rating: Good
I've been messing around with the beta. I haven't had too much of a chance to deal with Arcane yet, but I've toyed around with Fire and Frost.

Oh ho ho, as much as I love frost, I'm going to have to let it go. Frost just doesn't seem to have the style that it did in BC; the damage isn't as much as I'd like, and the nerf to spell power is pretty freaking sad. I was sitting with 1100+ unbuffed spell damage, now, it's at something like 900. Not good.

FIRE

Dear lord, THIS is what it's all about. Living Bomb is basically a mage version of SoC; and on top of that, you get a talent that makes it so that after a Blast Wave and/or Dragon's Breath, Flamestrike is INSTANT. Extreme burst damage capabilities.

I'm going to have to toy around with arcane to let you know the finer details, but all in all, as much fun as the "New" fire has been, I'm afraid that if the current trend continues, I might just have to retire the mage; the damage output isn't nearly what it was, and I'm very upset with it. Don't let the pretty new talents get your hopes up kids; hopefully Blizz will fix a great deal of the issues with it; I can only pray that they will.

Sounds like some possibilities as well as let downs. I assume you just began and are still in the early levels of testing? I am curious as the damage output might scale better with gear upgrades as you level and "could" be a different story down the road...

Very interested in hearing more, I opted in, but have not been so lucky yet :(

Keep us up to date...and thanks for posting...

EDIT - Deleted entry - CANC below mentioned the +heal/+dmg with spellpower, which I knew, but the mechanics of healing were changing not Damage (late night brain fart in my behalf)...so I have to hope there will be something on the horizon that may boost damage a bit.

its the replacing name for the same stat. We will essentially stay the same while healers do not need to farm for +healing gear since spellpower will give them +healing.

Overall damage seems to be a decent improvement at full frost; 40/0/21 isn't that spectacular; I was averaging 1600+ Frostbolts unbuffed with either spec BC; Beta it's about 1800 full frost, same number 40/0/21.

I haven't used the 'Brain Freeze', I think it is; turning a frozen target into a stun doesn't seem too useful in PvE yet.

I hope fellow mages will feel the love in the next Expac.

I was avtually prepared to read a happy post from your title, but got a bit dissapointed... hope it will feel better once the endgame gear starts falling into your lap

Oh yeah, I don't know if this is a glitch or not, but one of the things that might have been changed involves Mana Gems.

They don't disappear when you log out for more than 15 minutes. I'm not sure if this applies to other things as well (Warlock stones, etc); I'd be very VERY happy to see this as a permanent change; I'd be even more happy if it applied to food as well.

The conjured mana gems isn't a bug.
Quote:
Conjured mana gems no longer disappear from your backpack after being logged out for more than 15 minutes. Higher ranks of Conjure Mana Gem will recharge an existing mana gem to maximum charges.
