Shaman SpeedFollow

#1 Aug 10 2008 at 10:43 AM Rating: Decent
Ive been wanting to go shaman, but had a few questions that hopefully you can answer. What is the solo speed of a shaman? I will be grouping, but most of the time going solo. I was hoping to hit 55 before the expansion and was wondering if it was possible, playing maybe an hour or so a day, more on the weekend. Next, I heard that shaman are not good in solo pvp, is this true, or is it just the skill of the player? And finally, of the 3 hybrids, how does a shaman stack up as a whole? Thanks.

You could ask this question to a dozen different people and get a dozen different answers. I have leveled nearly every class in the game to at least the low 50's, and I found Shaman to be the single most painful leveling experience bar none from 10-39. That is my opinion based on my personal experience. However, everyone agrees that once Shaman hit the low 40's, they become one of the fastest leveling classes in the game.

This is all assuming, by the way, that you level Enhancement from 1-60, which is considered the fastest leveling spec. Once you reach Outlands, Elemental becomes a viable leveling alternative from the low 60's to 70.

Um... yes? No? I don't know. That really depends on you. This isn't a question you can really expect other people to answer, as leveling is a very subjective process.

This, unfortunately, is true. Shaman are one of the worst classes in the game at solo PvP. They are extremely gear-dependant, and unlike some other classes out there, there is really not much you can do to circumvent that with skill. Their complete lack of control and panic buttons in particular can make leveling on a PvP server very frustrating as you are a free HK to most classes in most situations.

Stack up... how? Healing? DPS? PvE? PvP? You need to ask a more specific question.

Quite honestly, shaman are not hard to level, as long as your not crazy like me leveling 1-70 full resto spec. But honestly that wasnt hard either, it just took longer than the average player.

I am leveling a prot paly now, It doesnt feel like its taking that long, 2 weeks of casual playing already at 33. I know one thing, Im having a great time playing a hybrid. I always enjoy them, I did find leveling 1-20 on a druid rather annoying and personally not my cup of tea.

I guess when people talk about leveling a toon as quick as possible, JUST TO HAVE A 70 - it kinda makes me ill. Once you get to 70 you will regret doing it as you have wasted time on a toon you dont even care about, take time on your toons and you will have fun playing and leveling them to 70 then end game will be even more enjoyable.

Compared to leveling my arms warrior, leveling my enhancement shaman was a breeze. I had very little down time, compared to bandaging/eating all the time with my warrior. It was a little slow going from 12-19. Once I got ghost wolf, I had a blast. I loved using a big 2hander when I got WF. I switched to DW once I hit 40 and haven't looked back.

Actually, a Paladin was my first main. I leveled a second Paladin as Prot when TBC hit, and found it much more productive than leveling my Shaman. I could complete group quests and easily handle half a dozen mobs my level, and though my individual killing speed was slower than my Shaman's, I still went through more quests, mobs, and XP per hour than my Shaman did. I was also nearly impossible to kill when ganked, which helped since I leveled on a PvP server.

Well... Warriors often describe themselves as "half a class" until they get their instant strike at 40 (MS and BT respectively), but honestly, I had a very easy time leveling my Warrior from 1-40. If you make use of every tool on your bar, you can really trivialize the amount of damage you take per mob as you grind through them and easily stay up as long as a Shaman. I only ever ran into trouble as a Warrior when I had adds or was ganked.

Not saying you guys' opinions are wrong, just reiterating... these are all opinions. Leveling is a very subjective experience, from the class you play, your spec, how well you play said class or spec, what quests you do, what instances you run... It's practically impossible for any two people in this game to have the same leveling experience from one to 70.

It actually evens out.

1-40 just level in groups, healing is easy as a shammy for instances thru to Sunken Temple. Get that bird toy Homer uses in that episode of The Simpsons when he gets too fat so he can work at home. Bind a key to Chain Heal, target the tank, set yourself on Auto-follow and just let the bird constantly hit the key (I know this would cancel Auto-follow, it's called a joke) while you sleep, **********, play Guitar Hero III, whatever.

At 40, go Enhancement and breeze thru the 50's and 60's then go rock Outlands. Shouldn't take you more than 3-4 weeks of casual gameplay to ding 70 and even less time to realize you fail at PvP.
