Suggestions on PaladinFollow

#1 Aug 10 2008 at 10:20 AM Rating: Default
Hi everybody,
I recently decided i want something different with my paladin,
after years(literally) of healing and tanking ,
I decided to do what alot of people say a paladin can't:
do some DPS
please people don't troll this topic with "zomg pally's can't dps nub",
I want to do something challenging, getting to do what alot of paladins don't dare.
right now i crit at around 1600 with Crusader strike and 1400-1500 with SoC proc.
but..I WANT MORE!! haha :P

armory: http://armory.wow-europe.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Argent+Dawn&n=Randan

so I ask you fellow paladins of the light..what should i do talentwise/gearwise?

I thank you in advance!

Are you trying to PVP or PVE? If PVP (which I think), ignore anything I'm going to say.

For PVE, your gear seems unfocused.

Suggestions:
Find a way to get enough hit rating where you're not whiffing on attacks. Ret doesn't need much, but 24 hit rating seems really slow for PVE.
Legs: Vanquisher's Legplates (Heroic Mech drop)
Wrists: Eternium Rage-shackles (badge reward)
Trinket: Blood Lust Brooch instead of the Commendation.

Enchant your cloak with +12 agi, head with +AP/+hit, +6 stats to chest, +strength to bracers, get a cobrahide/nethercobra kit for your legpiece.

Get rid of Deflection, and replace it with Improved Seal of the Crusader. Someone else will have to get a little more in-depth on it.

Basically if you want to be one of the few and some may say proud pallies that can do some nice dps before WotLk comes out, I'd just check out the ret stickie by toolofjesus and just use that as your new pally bible.

Your talents and your gear don't match... at least when I was looking you were wearing an awful lot of Defense gear. Stop that now, even DPS greens are better than defense blues/epics if you want to increase your DPS. The healing bracers (more epic lust?) need to go as well, they are not helping your DPS to any measurable degree.

Put it this way, my Paladin causes the same damage you're quoting, and I have no AP enchants and partially green/blue gear; but, I am focusing 100% on DPS plate/mail/leather regardless of Quality. Grab the Shattered Hand legs from the AH, that alone will give you a substantial DPS boost.

Thanks for the comments people,
and Sinstralis ,the reason i have those healing and tanking items ,
is that i've been healing and tanking my entire wow life :P
so i'm now gathering the items to do more dps.
I will work on it now ;)

Those Shattered Hand Legs are great for any Ret that has just hit 70. I am still working on finding an upgrade for them but all that hit rating is so hard to pass up.

Read ToolofJesus' Ret Guide. It will tell you what stats to focus on and where the best gear can be found (drops, AH, badge or pvp). Trinketwise the Shataari Skyguard Cross and the bloodlust brooch are probably the easiest ones for you to get without having to rely on others or doing huge amounts of pvp.

To help your DPS even more, drop Vindication (useless against ANYTHING at your level), drop some of your holy spec points (keep the 5 points in divine strength), and put enough points into prot talents to get 3/3 precision. You won't be able to off-heal as well, but you did say you were trying to focus on DPS... If you are going to go for it, might as well go all the way! You have a very nice weapon with a decent Ret enchant on it, but missing with it gimps your dps quite a bit. If you spec 3/3 precision, you WILL actually notice the difference.
