Warrior shield wall in WotLKFollow

I just read on another site that warrior shield wall is getting reduced to a 5min cooldown but having its damage reduction reduced to 50% to compensate (from 75% i think). First, does anyone know if this is true, and secondly, does it make any other Paladin tanks feel sick?

We seem to be getting lots of threat buffs in WotLK but nothing that really helps us mitigate damage to the level a warrior can now, let alone what they will be able to do in Northrend. With fights like Brutallus next on the agenda for my guild I face a stong possibility of being benched until he is on farm as we have 2 well geared warrior tanks, a well geared druid tank (all full BT T6) and me. Normally I would go healing but because it's my offspec they are gonna wanna take the pally healers who heal as mainspec cause their healing gear is better than mine.

I know they say paladins niche is AoE tanking but I would really love it if Blizz showed us some proper love and let us be as viable maintanks on progression raids. If warrior shield wall really is being buffed to a 5min cooldown it really feels like a kick in the teeth to tankadins.

Well about warrior's shield wall changes I really don't know, but you are totally wrong about the future paladin's mitigation abilites.

Didn't you see we are getting our own "shield wall" ?
It's called Divine Protection. Yes the old bubble you don't use anymore since you've learned Divine Shield. It is becoming in wotlk a 12 sec bubble reducing all damage by 50% (you won't lose aggro) with it's current 5 min cooldown affected by the talent "Sacred Duty", so for us a 4 min cooldown...

If the changes about the warrior's shield wall are true, then it would be done in order to give exactly the same tools for both classes...

I have a pally and anther 70 and am just waiting for the expac to see what i go to 80 with (whichever is going to be the best) and I have to say, if my pally could single target tank as well as a warrior then why the heck would there ever be a warrior that rolled prot? They should mitigate damage better than us but be unable to take on the entire world of lesser mobs like we can. Its all about balance.

I dont think any guild went to the top and killed the mobs first on their servers with paladin tanks, they were probably warriors. However, after everyone else is better geared paladins can do it just fine. Just makes sense.

I agree with you Zis, but at the same time Paladins shouldn't be so far behind that you HAVE to have such a great gear difference in your healers/DPS when using that Paladin to MT then when you have a Warrior doing the same job. I hope that made sense, lol. Also Paladins really have had a hard time when it comes to caster mobs/bosses due to the fact that so much of our threat is reactive: you don't get nearly as much threat when you're not getting hit (Holy Shield, Ret Aura, BoSanc). The addition of active threat generation is what I am most excited about.

Personally I don't want to be a better single target tank then a Warrior, but I do want to be able to fill that role to more than just a passable degree.

Blizzard recently said that if guilds tend to prefer any one of the four tanking classes to be main tank for their raids, then they fail in wotlk.

And I don't understand why you are always talking about warriors... In BC the best tank is feral... And by a far far distance from the weak plate wearing classes, from every point of view.

edit: there are guilds in BC that have choosen a pally MT. It just is not the tradition... Whatever class is your MT, he tends to be better than other tanks in the raid, always due to gear priority, and nothing else.

In all honesty this is the first time I have seen/heard anyone say this :S

Why do people talk about Warriors though? Last Stand, Shield Wall, Spell Reflect: need I go on? :)

Druids have better avoidance, mitigation and threat... Well this is a fact, and abilities like oh **** buttons are nice but cannot fill the gap of permanent basics stats. If a fight require some particular abilitie from warrior, it is another debate... But I don't want to go into this debate here, I prefer to link blue posts instead, or else you will assume all that is just my opinion and that I am retarded :)
