Best character to duo with my wife's mageFollow

Hello all. recently my wife and I duo'ed a druid and Hunter and it was fun, but my wife wants to roll a new character and she started a mage(prob frost). I want some opinions on what would be the best character to play with her. I have a pally, shaman and warrior that are a little higher but still close to her(she is 12 right now), and I also have a mage that I started and forgot about a long time ago. I am thinking either the Pally or mage. I would think 2 mages would go well together and a prot pally seems like it would work well. Also, we are only going to be doing PvE, and probably not raiding for a long long time. My wife is a quester nut so we will spend most of 1-70 just questing and doing the odd instance.
Any help would be appreciated.

Paladin would be good...or a rogue, but it's really up to you...

Rogue would be somewhat wasted since you both have to fight to stay equal on the DPS; so many DPS is going to get wasted when killing avarage mobs. Prot pallie seems like a good idea, though... You can 'tank' mobs for your wife and unlike a warrior you have a reliable ability to heal when things turn nasty.

Paladin if you want a melee and healer; it's the safer choice.

Mage if you want to down mobs fast and quickly trash everything with little to no downtime. If she's Frost, go Fire. The two pair very well together.

edit: Just remember to let her get the first cast off; starting with Chilled and then blasting it to hell before it gets to either of you ;)

The pally/mage combo is hard to resist. A self-healing tank with heavy artillery support should mow down quest mobs, and you'll be able to tackle orange/red quests as a team.

Feral druid may be another option, with similar strengths.

Warlock could be fun. Let the voidwalker tank for the two casters.

There's probably a way to make just about any combo workable in PVE, as long as you each understand what the other can do.

I'd say any tank would do for soloing, and would help with groups as well, but for questing only, 2 ranged DPS is the best option you have, just kite the mobs if your wife is frost.

I'd say a Hunter, Elemental Shaman, Mage or Balance Druid are good options here, even a Shadow Priest would do (as reliant on DoTs as it is), but would probably be best with a Warlock (not Affliction mind you, nothing will live long enough for DoTs :) ). You shouldn't be needing anything to tank for you with 2 ranged DPS, in between Fear and Frost snares, nothing will ever get to you.

The reason I say ranged DPS is because with melee DPS you are either getting the melee DPS hurt as it tanks for the Mage, or just running around chasing the mob.

Doesn't really matter anyway, almost any combination of 2 characters in World of Warcraft works well.

Yuval.

The problem/challenge with two ranged DPS is there are places where the mobs are pretty close together, so there's not enough room to kite or fear without drawing adds. A tank type can hold the mobs in a nice tight little pack, perfect for AoE.

paladin or shaman would be the best choices.

Paladin can hold threat better, Shaman will do much more dps. Mages level solo very easily -- most things are dead before they reach the mage anyway. The big limitation on mage leveling speed is mana. Shaman bring mana totems, and even more dps, need I say more!!

Paladins holding aoe threat would make aoe grinding really easy, and the armor will make corpse runs a little less fequent. But with no mana regeneration and much lower dps at mid to higher levels, the rate of leveling would likely be slightly slower.

So I was in the white sands yesterday doing all those quests and ran into a paly along the way. I asked if he wanted to group so we did. Unfortunately he couldn't hold aggro from me but with shatter and frostbite things went down before they got to me. Having BoW is great and we just cruised along annihilating the quests, and the mobs that came with them. The paly tossed me heals, bop'd me stunned the mobs and tanked a few for AoE situations. So I personally would rather have a Paly by my side for that. I think they synergize quite well for now. Once I hit 70, I'll be doing arena's with my friend who rolled a rogue. Enjoy!

Thanks for all the comments. I tried playing my pally with her, we are 20 now and cruising along. She kills everything and causes all kinds of problems with aggro, but it is fun, althugh I do spend a lot of time right now running after mobs. Quests are a joke so far and elites are dropping very quickly. We will wait another 10 levels or so and then try some AoE when I switch to prot, but so far so good.
I will say there are times when I wish I just played another mage with her as i do spend too much time running to the mob, hitting it, then running after the mob as she gets aggro, but we run with what we brung and this duo might fare better than 2 mages when we venture into instances.

You really shouldn't be having that much trouble holding aggro, unless she way outgears and/or outlevels you. Might be easier if you do the pulling. If she's doing the pulling, let her pull with Rank 1 frostbolt. You judge the mob as soon as it is in range(on my pally, I like to judge the one that increases holy damage taken, then use the seal that gives me extra holy damage), hit consecrate (also holy damage)...then she opens up and burns the mob down. If she pulls aggro, target her and use that pally taunt-like ability to snap the mob back to you. Your stun is good, too. Use it as needed to stop a runner.

Bottom line, she needs to give you a few seconds to build aggro before she drops serious nukes. She can use frostbolt to slow, and frost nova to stop mobs temporarily. If all else fails, and she has aggro, she needs to bring the mob towards you so you can get it back.

Sorry I can't remember the names of the pally spells. My pally alt is only mid-30s, and I don't play him often.

Protection paladin for the easy win as far as I'm concerned...

AoE tank + AoE damage + healing capabilities = profit. You can solo anything.

Go Fire Mage. You'll be able to mow down just about anything before it has a chance to touch either of you.

If not Fire Mage, then probably Paladin. You can tank while she DPS's. To be honest the only thing that would slow you down is the fact that you'll have to wait for her mana regen.

Wait until she gets Mana Shield (regen 30% of your mana while casting, or something close to that) and throw BoW on her, and she'll be able to go for a while longer. Frost is nice as that is what I am (currently lvl 38), and when I get the frostbite and winters chill up + freeze for a shatter combo, it's mayhem. Highest crit so far is a little over 500 with a frostbite and winterschill (x3 or 4). It was pretty sweet.

Anywho, just enjoy it all the way to 70. You should be able to get into groups EZmode with your combo. By the time you hit 70, you can either tank or heal, or hope to find a group that lets a ret paly in for dps.

Druid.

Tank for a while, mob not going down? Eat it as a cat. Things going bad? Throw some heals in the party. Wife pulls aggro? (Not surprising, women...) Tank again!

I like my druid alot personally.

Hello, again thanks for the comments but I have another question. Based on how we are leveling(mainly quests and doing instances(just us 2) a few levels below us, at least until we hit outlands) what would be a good leveling spec for her frost mage. I know absolutely nothing about mages. My main is a Warlock, and I leveled a druid already with her,but mages, I am lost. Most builds I see center around raiding builds,lv.70 builds or AoE frost grinding, but we won't be doing too much of that outside of killing quest mobs. Also, she is deathly afraid of PvP so she is in need of a PvE build centered around her dealing most damage in a 2 man party that does all quests and a few instances. A tough sell.I was thinking arcane/frost mix would be better instead of deep frost as she will be doing most of the damage while I attempt to tank...but again, mages confuse me.
Can anyone hint at a good leveling spec for her or link me to one. It would be greatly appreciated.

I play 41/20/0 Arcane/Fire spec. I have tons of mana, and score big crits. Don't see a whole lot of people playing that build these days, but in my experience, it's pretty versatile. I can pvp, quest, instance, even raid a little if I feel like it. It's not an "uber build" or anything--but I love the ability to make my pyroblast an instant cast spell once every three minutes.

For max damage, seems like people prefer deep fire. Frost is not bad--doesn't have the huge crits of my spec, or the pure damage potential of fire, but it has decent damage and lots of control. Most pvp mages seem to go frost.

Given the aggro problems you mentioned earlier, frost may be a good choice for your wife. Fire is just gonna make her pull aggro even more often...and a PoM Pyro build like mine will do that, too.

If she has been known for pulling aggro I'd stay with frost as you have the chance to freeze your target (frostbite) when casting a frost spell (something other than Frost Nova). So if she does pull aggro, her next Frostbolt has the chance of stopping the mob in it's tracks, as well as the slowing debuff to slow the mob down in the process. As fire, she has the ability to nuke it before it reaches her as well as the stun from ignite to stop the mob in it's tracks so you can catch up to her, until you can throw out more TPS than she can dish.

As a fellow mage, my best pairing experience is with a paladin, whatever his spec.

Even in PVE, there will be times when you have to get into tight places and require healing no matter how careful and skilful you are. The mage-pladin combo is essentially all 5 roles in a nutshell: tank, heal, dps cc and utility.
