Hello all!
Day before yesterday, I asked a friend to run me through Cathedral to get the shield from Mograine. And I dinged from 39 to 40 during that run. I also completed the Into the Scarlet Monastery quest and got that nice little sword.
In summary, I'm prot since 32 to do some aoe grinding/questing. Make a change of pace from my other characters. But so far, I was using a 1h mace. Yesterday I upgraded my mail items to plate, put crusader on the sword, thorium spikes on the shield and off I am to Kargath. Aggroed 5 lesser rock elementals and first message I got when I began to swing: Your sword skill is now 50.
In the end.. I killed them without having to bandages (I threw one heal). Holy Shield + Plate is surprisingly a really big difference on damage taken/output I do!
I'm definitely hooked on my paly now:)

There are some excellent places to get the most out of being a Protection Pally in the levelling game. The first REALLY awesome one I remember is the Hillsbrad Yeti cave where I was chain pulling (walk backwards spamming Rank 1 Consecrate as you go until you're ready to stay put and fight so that everyone you pull stays with you) the entire cave in 1 or 2 pulls. Of course at that level Consecrate is your only real tool, Seal of Wisdom and Holy Shield being so far off and all.
Raptors in STV were another of those places, but you still lack tools.
The Badlands is the first *real* place to get a feel for it though. Holy Shield, both seals, all the important blessings, plate. It's all there. The only integral component you lack at that point is maxed Ardent Defender and it doesnt add new abilities, it just lets you take on the world at once.
Ahh yes, a Paladin in the Badlands is a god. It's pretty easy to round up large pulls of dogs, cats, vultures, ogres, rock elementals, troggs, and dark iron dwarves there too. Esp. with a mount.

Now that the mount is at 30, you are sure to have your mount by the time you got to badland anyway =)
