Hydross......Follow

#1 Aug 07 2008 at 6:28 PM Rating: Decent
Normally I don't Post armories of other people but I need some advice. My GM is wanting a warrior to MT one of the phases for Hydross.

15.2k health
18% dodge
15% parry
3 blues.

I am wanting to Tank the Poison phase. I am currently Ret on my armory.

I have 14.9k base health
23-24% dodge
18% parry
No blues
2 peice T4 setbonus and my Libram of Divine Purpose

I pretty much outgear the guy in everyslot. Im pretty upset by the whole thing. I really want to say something. I think the only reason the guy is tanking SSC is because he is the GM son. I dont know what to do.

It doesn't really matter what your base stats are, it's going to matter what your stats are in resist gear.

I agree.

Its just driving me insane. I'm getting passed up by someone with half the tanking gear. The only reason I can get for it, he is a warrior. That is all the guild lead is saying. That alone urks me. I think that is the reason Im nitpicking the situation.

People who still use the, "Because it's a Warrior," line ... I'm sorry, they fail. Certain fights it's just not smart to use a Paladin when you could use a Warrior, but that's due to silence, mana drains, etc.. Hydross though /sigh.

Hydross is a boss where I can *almost* understand "typecasting" the tanks.

A single Paladin in 50%/50% resist gear is by far the BEST add tank. As far as holding up to Hydross himself, it doesn't really matter. Hydross is vulnerable to both mechanics and doesnt do anything that you need special class-only abilities to counter. Ideally, the best played tank who puts the most effort into obtaining a resist set should get him, but frankly a Paladin serving as add tank is far more effective than a Druid + Warrior, Druid + Druid, or 3 Warriors (2 if they're good) so I consider it an honor to school them in the art of handling multiple adds.

I don't bring my Protection Paladin to SSC anymore, but when I did (people still went through T5 back then) I called for other tanks to hold Hydross while I put together a hybrid set (which later became a full nature and a full frost set) because any old tank could hold him but a Paladin really excells on the adds.
