Respec fire? Or go deeper frost?Follow

I started off as a fire mage. Levelling to 70 with a terrible spec, and having no idea what I was doing. I then switched to a frost raid spec or 40/0/21, and I have been enjoying that for the past month or so.

I'm a raider, so I'm not looking to spec for PvP, I'm looking for max controlled dps. I'm running Kara mostly at the moment, and the guild is looking to get into Mags and Gruuls soon.

I've been thinking of respeccing fire, as the fire mages seem to get a lot more dps than me even though our gear is around the same level. Or maybe a deeper frost spec, because I've noticed a deep frost mage in my guild get insane damage with gear that isnt much higher than mine.

Armory

Obviously if I respecced fire I would change the Shadoweave set and offhand for the fire equivalent. Or just a general upgrade. My two questions are;

1. Is it worth respeccing fire and changing my gear? Or should I stay same frost spec? Or go deeper frost?
2. Is there any better spec than 40/0/21 for frost raiding? I have looked around but I haven't found any.

And a not really related question.. but I didnt want to make a whole new thread...

3. Is my gear reasonable to be entering Mags/Gruuls?

I have asked the same question in the past and got little response. I can tell you this, I am frost and have been from day one. I tried changing to fire and took on some mobs for a test, at lvl 45 my pyroblast then fireball only hit the lvl 44 mob for around 400-425. Plus the mob was on me faster than hell, after 3-4 more tries I ported back to SW and went back to frost and came back to the same mobs and slammed them them for 813 with my second frostbolt. Also they never got anywhere near me. I do not have any special gear at this time. http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Medivh&n=Korlynndra So at this time I say frost the for me, it could change later on at end game but for now I staying a chilly Mage

1) It is only worth the respec if you get a new off-hand, and have some decent shoulders and have the spellfire stuff already crafted.
2) If you are raiding with a deep frost mage, he'll put up winter's chill for you to use. Arcane/Frost should be fine.
3) Yes, just don't tank Krosh with your gear. If you are going to be the mage tank, you need a lot of +stam gear.

1) If you want to top on a damage meter you will need to be fire. Do you get into heroic MgT groups? You can get the robe and shoulders there so you don't have to craft the spellfire set. (You may even want to consider those items if you stay frost.)

2) An arcane buffed fire or frost spec, tends to be looked as a "helper" spec until you can get your unbuffed damage up to 900ish. You will do more damage as Deep frost or fire until you get to T5 content. If you respec, even if you have done the spec before, it will take a bit to get into new rotations/timing and playstyle. BE sure to commit yourself to a week of trying it even if you don't like it right off the bat.

3) Your gear is good to start Mags/Gruuls.

Edit: If you stay frost, you are 44 over the hit cap. You can fit in better gem options for more damage.

Your gear is fine, it looks like youve done your homework there. Could there be an improvement or two? maybe but your pretty good.

Youve got a lot of + frost damage and thus, if your looking for the biggest impact you could have in one 20-50 gold respec or what not, going deep frost should probably boost your DPS. The spec you have revolves around spamming arcane blast and using frostbolts as "mana regen." Dont really want to get into explaining that, but trust me. Your gear is also not suited for that very specific spec.

If you are trying to 100% optimize your dps pre t5 content, then yes going 2/48/11 is the normal route and you would need to re gear. If you dont want to go through that effort, go 10/0/51 and you should be able to do enough dps to not be holding back the raid at that point. The last alternative is to have the 40/0/21 spec, but it would take a huge gear overhaul, more so than going fire.

Bottom line advice, grab badges and get gear as 10/0/51. If you come across enough pieces in your badge gathering, then you can go 2/48/11.

Edit: Actually re looking at your gear, your gemming blows to be honest. There should not be any +stamina gems going on there. + damage and +hit where needed are the way to go. Especially as frost having ice barrier will more than make up for the ****** health we have.

I am not going to re-state everything that has been said, so I will go ahead with my recommendations/answers to your questions:

1) It can be worth it to change your spec to fire (which would require a major overhaul of your gear) but at the current level of raiding you are doing I wouldn't worry about it too much, stick with frost for now, you could move into deep frost (10/0/51 is a solid build) to get the water elemental for some extra dps, etc.

2) Anwered above

3) Your gear is very reasonable to go into Mags/Gruuls. Look to get the neck/ring replaced when you can. There are some good upgrades out there, check out the rawr theorycraft program (google it) or check out maxdps.com [not as good/trustworthy but will give you a general idea of what to look for).

Get rid of the green [quality] gems in your epic gear, you will be wearing it for a while, don't skimp out on it. As stated, you are over hit cap for frost (need 126 with full elemental precision right now -- you get 6% hit, not the 3% that it states for frost, for fire it is still 3%). You do not need to match the colors on every single socket and get the socket bonuses, those are not required at all. I actually never go for it unless I would have already gemmed that way to start with or if the bonus is great (4+ spelldmg or something of that sort). So get rid of some of those green [quality] gems and the stam gems and get dmg or dmg/crit for the moment.

As a draenei mage you get an extra 1% spell hit from your aura, so whatever the hit cap is for a normal mage you can go below it by 12.6 hit rating.

If you stay with your current spoc (or go deep frost) I'd suggest replacing your scryer's bloodgem (as you won't need the hit from it). Arcatraz for Shiffar's Nexus Horn (and get revered with Sha'tar for yuor head enchant), Slave Pens Heroic for Quagmirran's Eye or the Icon of the Silver Crescent from Badges of Justice are all nice trinkets for that level.

So what you are saying Tynuv is that as a Draenie I can cut 12.6 off my 202 hit rating? Here is my link to the Armory
I'm a fire mage even though my talents are 40/21/0 it gives me great mana, so now I need to work on my health

As a Dranei frost mage you only need 114 spell hit to be capped. Also, a lot of people, including me, go with 40/0/21 to get icy veins. You have 2 points in prismatic cloak. I would definetly reccomend changing those to 2 points in Arcane Potency. That would increase the critical strike bonus of all your spells by 50%. You have max points in fireblast and points in master of elements at the expensive of ignite. Ignite is almost an essential talent if you are going to be using fire for either pve or pvp.
