Hello all. I've been reading a few posts here and there about badge chest pieces with the "old" one being superior to the "new" one. Or so goes the consensus anyway. Thing is ... I really don't know which one's which.

I asuume the old one is :
Chestguard of the Stoic Guardian

And the new one :
Chestplate of Stoicism

Is that so? For a pala tank is the Stoic Guardian a better choice?

Thx all.

Yes the old one is the Stoic Guardian. The new badge chest has more Spl dmg which means more threat but you would be losing a lot of avoidance for spell hit and a bit more spl dmg. not worth it imo.

Hang on a bit:

Chestguard of the Stoic Guardian - 75 Badges - G'eras - Shattrath
Binds when picked up
Chest - Plate
1607 Armor
+60 Stamina
Red Socket
Yellow Socket
Blue Socket
Socket Bonus: +6 Stamina
Durability 165 / 165
Requires Level 70
Equip: Increases defense rating by 22 (9.3 @ L70).
Equip: Increases your dodge rating by 38 (2.01% @ L70).
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 35.

Chestplate of Stoicism - 100 Badges - Smith Hauthaa - IQD
Binds when picked up
Chest - Plate
1765 Armor
+78 Stamina
Red Socket
Socket Bonus: +3 Stamina
Durability 165 / 165
Requires Level 70
Equip: Increases defense rating by 51 (21.56 @ L70).
Equip: Increases your dodge rating by 34 (1.8% @ L70).
Equip: Increases the block value of your shield by 39.

The new chest doesn't have any spell damage on it. I'm having a hard time seeing how the old chest provides more avoidance as well. That crapton of extra defense on the new one should give another 1.44% avoidance, which more than makes up for the lost .2% in dodge rating, right? Or is my maths all screwy?

That's the warrior tank chest, I assumed the OP meant the new palatank chest (Shattrath Protectorate's Breastplate). Maybe I'm wrong and I gave a completely irrelevant answer!

Sorry if I did :P

Shattrath Protectorate's Breastplate
Binds when picked up
ChestPlate
1765 Armor
+78 Stamina
blue Blue Socket
Socket Bonus: +2 Dodge Rating
Requires Level 70
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 60.
Equip: Increases defense rating by 26.
Equip: Improves spell hit rating by 34.

Stoicism is better for a Tankadin as far as avoidance. Forget the Stoic Guardian and just enchant your weapon with Spelldamage. Stoicism give WAY better stam and avoidance stats.

It's as Theengine said. I was comparing those two. Thanks for the clarification. 100 Badges, still 60 to go then ...

Thanks a lot all.

The difference is really +4 dodge, 35 spell dam, +12 stam(assuming +15 stam gems in all sockets for both items) vs 158 armor, 29def, and 39 block value.

4 dodge = .21% dodge
29 def = 1.93% total avoidance(1.45% pure avoidance)

Old pally chest: 12 stam, 35 spell dam
New warr chest: 158 arm, 1.72% total avoidance(1.24% more pure avoidance) , 39 bv

So new chest offers much more avoidance and mitigation, but actually has less stam and less threat. Both have their uses, if you're having trouble reaching 490def and uncrushability then the new warr chest is superior. If you are easily uncrushable and looking to increase your threat without sacrificing stam then the old pally chest may be for you.

This. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have both chests and to swap them depending on what you are doing, and the avoidance you need from that particular slot.

Exactly. I'd always suggest to grab the 75 badge chest first as it provides a crapton more Stamina and a healthy chunk of Spell Damage. You can't really justify the loss by enchanting your weapon since you're weapon is assumed enchanted with +40 at all times anyways. The 100 badge "of Stoicism" chest is interesting though. At the badge gearing level (cause yea.. who does T5 these days?) with the massive lack of Defense, the "of Stoicism" chest can actually make up for some of that loss if you're trying to get new gear to work and just cant get over 490. Mind you, at a whopping loss of Stamina *sigh*

Thx for the responses everyone. I'm sitting at 40 badges right now, so I won't be able to get chest piece for a couple more days (thank heavens for Kz's 22 badges), but I'm much looking forward to swapping yet another blue.

I currently use the new chest piece, I have no problems at all holding any aggro, throw on a superior wizard oil and im almost to 350 spell damage. I'm working towards the new pally tanking legs, which will add more spell damage. And should keep me 490 defense and 102.4 avoidance.

With WotLK coming soon, not sure how much I should put into getting the badge gear yet, I guess at say level 73-74 i will find a blue that is better then most of the stuff I have now.

Anybody seen anything about badges or what will happen with them?

The current badges wont really help you much.

There are a whole pile of different types of tokens for different things (so much so that it looks like they may be making different tokens for different instances in some cases, exactly what's happening isnt entirely ironed out yet) in Wrath so you wont have TOO much use for the current ones.

Probably wise to spend them and get the most you can out of TBC content in the last little bit rather than stockpiling them for relatively little use.
