Wisdom of a new Druid (general thoughts)Follow

I haven't got to 70 on any characters yet so I'm still a bit of a noob. Currently 52.5

I'm leveling straight feral so far. This is my highest level character, not my only but the only one I've gotten past the low 40's (the other is a dwarf hunter).

I'm learning to tank in instances but do quests in cat form. Seems to work so far. How did I ever tank before mangle? It is a huge difference.
I've read a number of guides on tanking and I have a pretty good understanding of threat/aggro mechanics.
I've noticed so far that my bear form and cat form gear only vary by a few pieces. I suspect that will start to change at 60(58?) when I get to Outland. I don't think that there is really much I can do to gear up before I get to Outland. I don't think that there is any pre-60 gear that I really need to get because it'll all get replaced soon after 58.

My problem is kind of two fold. I think that at least one of my problems may not be me. When starting a pull with more than 1 or 2 mobs. Someone in the group (usually the hunters pet but not always) grabs aggro before I can get a mangle/maul combo off on it and that just the first mob. When one of the mobs goes after the healer or the mage. I'm left trying to run all over green creation to get the mob back and it all goes sideways.

The other problem is that I have problems targeting the correct mob. I'll have a mob targeted but as per above I'll have to change targets then see where that mob is and get over to it. Part of this I think is camera angle. When in bear form the camera shifts down and it is hard to see who and what is where. Is there a mod or something to fix the camera angle?

A few questions that I have not been able find a really good answer for.

1) What exactly is a 'tier'. I know it has something to do with level 70 instances and raids. Related question is, what are 'badges'? How do they work? It appears that they are sort of like money to be cashed in for purple items. X item costs Z badges? My understanding is that bosses will drop a badge for a certain type of item. Example, {insert name of Boss} will drop a helm badge or a leggings badge but every one in the raid gets a badge of that type with certain types of badge being more or less common. A helm badge more than a chest badge.

2) Speaking of raids. How do raids work? Is it exactly like a 5man instance but with more people? If so, doesn't it get really confusing with somewhere between 10 and 40 people all crowded in to one area? Trying to fight one boss mob. It's hard enough to see what's going on when a mob has been peeled off with 5. How on earth do you coordinate 40 people?

The other thing that I've noticed is that nearly every post on every forum assumes that every character is a 70. As one of the very very few players that doesn't have a 70, this is a bit frustrating.

1) Tier is an English word meaning "a layer; level; stratum." Tier 1 is simply the first layer or level. Tier 5 raid gear is referring to the 5th raid gear set, or the 5th level of raid gear. A tier 2 talent is a talent located in the 2nd layer of the talent tree.

Badges are tokens that can be traded for epics at a vendor (or vendors, because there are two of them, I think). It's sort of like how honor points and battleground tokens work. Gather enough and trade them in for a nice epic item.

2) Raids are essentially just big groups, but usually the boss encounters are a little different and more complex. To avoid confusion, most raids use Ventrilo or any other voice chat. Makes it easier when you don't have to type while playing. And usually people aren't just standing in one big pile.

In the expansion most of the raids will be, um, was it 10- or 25-mans? I don't remember, but the average raid size is getting chopped a bit.

First off, there is nothing you can do about DPS stealing aggro from you apart from stating before a run that you need to hit/ be hit by mobs to glue them to you. If they draw aggro let them tank it.

Tier 4-6 is outlands kit you get from Raids. You get a piece of (unequipable sp?) kit that can be traded at an appropriate vendor for a piece of kit you can equip. Tier 4 is Kara and the harder raids drop higher tier kit.

Badges are badges of honor. Not worked out clicky links so just search above for badges of honor and you will see more. They drop from heroics and raids. Heroic bosses drop 1 badge and Raid bosses drop 2. These are used like money as you thought but not quite as you thought. A certain piece of kit might cost 20 badges and another may be more or less.

Enjoy the fun of being a druid. Oh BTW I never really worked on DPS or Tanking gear. I just built my tanking kit and found I could DPS quite convincingly all the way to 70. Saves a bit of messing around with bag space.

Actually, from what I've read in a bunch of places including this one they are doing something that I think is really cool: making 10- and 25- man versions of all the WotLK raids, with the 25-man version of each raid being the equivalent of one "tier" higher than the 10-man version.

I thought the 25 man and 10 man drops would be equal in stats, but 25 man raid drops would have more graphical looking glowy affects to them?

If they did that, then nobody would do the 25mans :)

It is much easier to get a great 10 man group together than to get 25 non-scrubs. The 10man versions will drop Tier X level gear and the 25man version will drop Tier X+1 Level gear. I've read that somewhere from a "blue" but can't find the reference atm.
