Rethinking ShS Daggers for fun?Follow

I sure wish I could make ShS Daggers work.

WotLK is adding talents to the sub tree that will make it viable, again. In the mean time, while I know ShS Hemo is the best PvP build overall, I am very tempted to give ShS Daggers a try. I'm sitting at just over 33% crit w/ a tick short of 2k AP, perfect 79 +hit rating and a good deal of armor mitigation (1170 w/ talents + gear). I'm going to pick up the S2 main hand dagger for fun w/ Mutilate, anyway, and I thought I'd give this spec a try.

Has anyone played around with it lately? Could anyone suggest and good specs? It's hard to spec for it, it seems, because there are so many extra talents you need for the Ambush/Backstab damage.

Please don't reply and tell me dagger ShS is bad. I already know this! I'm just looking to play around, assassinate a few ppl and have fun.

If all you want is to blow up scrubs in BGs then you don't need vile poisons or MoD, really.

This is what I'm sitting on right now. The talent I miss most is Deadliness... Imp Evis is there to create 20/0/41... It's a bit of a leftover; I used to have 3 points there and then took 2 from it to pick up imp expose armor. If you really want to optimize it I suppose this is the way to go.

The thing with it is that you're heavily reliant on burst damage. Attacking when it's least expected or when you have the upper hand is pretty much a must. I myself put hemo and imp EA in the spec mainly because it's become impossible to just burst people down... In fact, I rarely open with ambush anymore. Usually I go for premed+cheap shot, 5 point imp expose armor, and then a big backstab.

All together I reckon it isn't all that bad. I do fairly ok with it and my gear pretty much sucks (which is something I always forget to take into consideration). For WOTLK I've got this planned, though I might put some points in waylay if the item use prevention indeed makes it to live. It's meant to synergize with my other rogue pall, who will go this. The idea is that in 2v2 I open up with a premed+CS+5 pt imp EA and then start shadowdancing, applying cheap shots (or ambushes/garottes) as I go. My pall will jump in after the imp EA, ambush, shadowdance and ambush ambush ambush with a possible 5 point evis (or kidney) in between. That's simply gót to hurt.

If you want to try something funny (that I've been wanting to try for a long time), go with this (alternatively, swap Elusiveness with Heightened Senses). It's not quite ShS, but I wonder how it works out.

Yes, there is a shs dagger build that works ONLY for f***ing around in world PvP. With decent gear you can put up 7 or 8k damage in a matter of seconds, but it's purely based on crits.

THIS is the build I would use. Again, after you open with ambush and spam backstab, you're pretty much done. Vanish, wait until it's off CD, and repeat.

EDIT:

Moz - both of those builds are crap. The whole idea of ShS daggers is crap. You're missing Deadliness, a free 10% bonus in attack power. You don't need 5pts in deception, you shouldn't be near people long enough for it to matter. And 1 pt in Imp. Evis? What's the purpose? I can see no cheat death, but if you Arena in this spec, you're retarded with out it. The build I posted above comes with this disclaimer, one more time - It's ONLY viable for world PvP. You open with ambush, spam backstab, vanish, repeat. If you get stunlocked or CC'd at all, you're a sitting duck (hence it's not viable for Arena).

Both of those builds are awful.

3 points in Ruthlessness but 0/1 Relentless Strikes makes about as much sense as going 51 in assassination and skipping mutilate.

How does Hemorrhage fit into that plan?

It doesn't, and that's why I'm most likely dropping it in WOTLK *grins*

Read my edit above. Hemo is there for when you don't have position for backstab, it's more energy efficient than SS. Why am I even posting on this?

I know, plus I don't really know what I'm talking about anyway...it's a bad spec overall when S2 swords are so easily attainable.

If you don't have the position for backstab in a pure dagger spec you're going to have to A) Move or B) Accept you're done for. Throwing in hemo somewhat takes away the "dagger" part of the spec. Looking at it that way I suppose I'm not really dagger specced either tho... Just reveals how flawed a real dagger spec actually is.

I tried. It sucked. I'm happy to have Hemo back.

That about sums up dagger specs these days.
