I have just leveled my priest to 40 using smite build and I have no intention of speccing it to shadow. I would be grateful if any of you experience healers can tell me where can I get some decent gear that would last me till say 60 as I have no intention of buying any gears except for a wand as I need to save up for the PMC and Whitemend set. As this is my 1st healing class toon, i would be much obliged if you could give me some pointers in trying to obtain good gear for my priest.

Well the answer is to run instances, and finish quests that are at your level. You will have some issues finding groups as not a lot of people are running level 40 toons anymore. But possibly get some guild help or other friends.
My real suggestion is to not worry much about gear you want at 70 and spend your money. You will not save up much money if you are focused on leveling. Let’s say you work hard at it and from 40-60 you pick up everything and AH lots of stuff. You might have 400g. That would be fairly impressive. But at level 70 you can run the daily quests for 2 days and have 400g. Doing 20 daily quests on a brand new 70 might take 2 hours.
So spend your money and buy off the AH to fill out trouble spots in your gear. Even if you spend 200g between 40-70 it won’t hurt you at all, and you will find that the increase in your smiting abilities and leveling speed will make up for any time needed doing dailies later.

I guess you're a tailor by the mention of PMC set. Dreamweave stuff I think was quite nice at your level, but as Ihawk said, running instances is the best way to get the best gear available.
You've got the level 50 priest quest in 10 levels time, if you heal instances a fair bit grab the prayer beads, they'll last you till Outland. There's some high spirit legs as a quest reward from ST too... but perhaps one of the drops in ST is better (I remember an attractive matching chest/gloves/kilt set I had from there, with good amounts of spirit)

Thanks for your reply guys. Yes currently i just bought a few good +spr gears. Took up tailoring cos of the PMC set and mining for steady income. Also took up all 3 secondary professions. Levelling using the smite build is quite fun and not much downtime so long you have spr gears up but honestly nothing compared to shadow specced levelling cos of spirit tap.
