Holding out for WotLK?Follow

Guys,

I'm working on doing heroics and pvp like crazy, but I'm concerned that if I use the honor and money to get items for level 70 now, I'll just regret it in a few months.

I realize that Blizzard won't release an actual date, but basic moneymaking/video game principles indicate that it'll release some time before Christmas this year and that's only 3 months away. Granted, I could be way off, but that's the way it usually goes for a large title game.

Now, before I get flamed for whining, please understand that I'm not. I simply don't have an ultra guild where we do Kara, BT, and others 3 times a week... and I'm much more casual of a player, so it's taken me months to get the 35 BoJ and $1k I have. I'm just asking what everyone's thoughts are on this same subject.

Since it takes some of us so long to get these things, at what point should we simply start saving them for the new expansion?

All thoughts appreciated.

Saving is up really isn't a bad idea, I'm doing it myself. I just got my priest Kara-worthy and now I've stopped trying to upgrade him. My rogue is in S1 with still some blues left. I've got 16K honor and 2.2K arena points on him, but I'm saving all of that up 'till WOTLK.

According to MMO-Champion and a blue post (im pretty sure) its coming out between October and December, but nothing is finalized as of yet. I personally would'nt save as BoJ probably won't be usable in WotLK because otherwise level 80's could just farm kara in 2hours easily.

Aye, the badges are the one thing I'm spending.

Some level 70's already farm Kara in 2 hours :p

If your gear isn't very good, you might want to grab some BoJ stuff, since it looks like a number of the pieces will still last a while. If you're fine with your gear level now, use those badges and buy, cut, and sell epic gems for cash; basically just rack up as much money as you can for the expansion.

Blues are still unsure whether honor and arena points will carry over to WotLK or not.

I'd put my money down on honor also being reset. Hence why I have stopped caring for honor on both my rogues and priest...

True... So either I buy a bunch of epics now and replace them at 72, or I save my stuff and might end up with a lucky bonus at 80. Didn't the honor from vanilla carry over to TBC though? I thought it did, but I can't quite remember since the end of the honor rank time as also somewhere around there.

The gear level between TBC and WotLK isn't going to be as big as between vanilla and TBC, so gearing up with BoJ gear really isn't a bad idea, as that gear should last you until the mid 7o's at least.

Theo, any indication of new badge gear coming out in WotLK? I haven't read a single thing about it.

If there is new badge loot coming out, I might just shelf my rogue and level my alts until the expansion hits.

No, you won't. Raid and badge purple gear will last you while leveling. Even Kaplan has said, several times, that Bliz will not repeat the same itemization issues that they had with BC for this release. I believe he noted that t6 gear will be viable up to 80 raiding. If I had to guess, I'd say probably into 78-ish raiding/instancing and to 80 solo/quests.

I really wish this rumor would die.

*edit, fixed small error

I do believe what Kaplan was talking about was the massive boost items got in the way of Stamina. What he's saying is that you won't be doubling your hp at level 61 over what you had at 59 or so.

If you look at the items that are appearing on Beta - the first instance (Utgarde) will replace your S1 / T4 gear. Sunwell gear will be replaced in the first level 80 raid (which afaik, is Naxx). The rest will slide in accordingly.

If it makes you guys feel better, my brother has gotten to level 77 on beta and hasn't replaced much besides getting a new trinket or two, and maybe one of those things that ferals use in their ranged slots.

Edit: He's in full T6/S4.

Yeah... I don't anything near that. /sigh... My guild is self-destructing, so sadly, I gotta find a new one, which means that it'll be a LONG time before I start getting some good drops, being the newbie.

I'm going to save my honor and focus on rings and trinkets for now... those last much longer than the average armor piece.

Still, badges stuff won't be replaced right away. It'll last until 75-ish no problem, with some pieces lasting longer. If you're having fun playing a class in heroics and 10-mans, go ahead and grab badges stuff for them.

I'm not much of a saver in game. Live for today!

There's something to be said for gearing up now for an easier time leveling as well. With all the ganking that'll be going on in the leveling zones, spending the honor/points/tokens on BG/Arena gear before the x-pac is released may not be such a horrible thing.

I stopped raiding on my Rogue and Priest this week and I'm just gonna start farming gold for Lich King. My Warrior doesn't have her epic flyer though you guys think I should buy it?

Absolutely. There aren't too many money sinks in WotLK so far, as Cold Weather Flying is a quest chain.

I'm holding out on my epic flying; once WotLK comes out it's 5.2k gold that's wasted until you're level 77. I'd rather invest that 5.2k gold in Inscription of JC'ing, and have that 5.2k and more back by 77.

Unless you're playing with your warrior as you main right now and farm herbs/ore/whatever with him. Then go for it. I don't do that, so I'm not going to spend the gold yet.
