Demo lock arena tips?Follow

#1 Aug 04 2008 at 10:31 AM Rating: Decent
I've got a lvl 70 demo lock and been thinking of doing arena, due to the gear. However, I much rather prefer pve and not really into pvp. From seeing what people say in the chat channels, they're looking for people with a ton of resilience.

So after seeing my resilience around only 30 something, I've been painfully doing battlegrounds, for the BG gear (it gives resilience). I'm now up to 125.

Anyway, is ~125 resilience decent to start attempting arena?
Any tips for a demo lock in the arena?
Should I, being a pve player, bother with pvp (battleground or arena) and just stick to instance gear?

If you prefer instances/raiding, do that. If you don't care for PvP there really isn't any reason you have to do it (though, I do suggest the s2 weapons). The s2 gear (now available for honor) is good for early raiding and some heroics, but there are drops/crafted pieces that are far better for PvE and are fairly easy to obtain compared to the time-investment you need for the honor or arena pieces. You have the FSW set, just add the Spellstrike pants and head, maybe a Belt of Blasting, and you're all set for t4 and some t5 (when FSW loses some of it's luster).

Good luck!

Thank you for the tip. Suppose I kinda wasted the last 2 days on WoW then, with lots of time in the battlegrounds...

Though I did really enjoy hitting in the top 5 for most dmg, beating my pvp friends. I even once hit the #1 spot.

I wouldn't say it was wasted. The wand is pretty good and the hands/helm are nice if you gem them for PvE. Those should do ya well while you work on the other stuff. If you have a good amount of honor left over I would strongly suggest the s2 staff for a destro build. It's teh awesomez.

Can't get on WoW right now, but I think I've only got 5-6k bg points. I also have a few marks for each bg. not many for each, other than wg, which I think I've got about 30 of (was aiming to get the pants of the same set as the helm/gloves).

However, if I'm not really doing anything (waiting for instance runs or group pve quests) I may still do battlegrounds. I haven't really looked, but I know you can buy gems with bg points.

As for the marks I pile up... all the mounts, just to show off? Can't think of anything else to do with them.

Use For Great Honor with those extra marks.

Unfortunately, the armory is down so i cannot view your profile - You could be in dressed in full T6 gear which would totally trash my following comment :)

With that said, don't underestimate the value of the vindicator/guardian accessories in the PVE aspect. Although intended as PVP items, their stats as well as gem slots make them very comparable to some T5/T6 raid and badge gear. All can be bought with just honor and BG marks - The guardian set does require an arena rating to purchase (but not use). It's nice to have gear that has both PVP and PVE potential

Guardian's Silk Set
Guardian's Dominance Set
Guardian's Subjugation Set
Guardian's Conquest Set

I agree that honor farming can be painful - if you don't mind being at a handicap in arena matches, you could purchase the blue dreadweave set from the outland faction quartermasters.

Blue Dreadweave Set

They do not have nowhere near the armor or high-end stats of S2 but they can be purchased with gold (which is easy to come by these days) and they have the ever-important resilience stat. Just don't think that you will automatically become an arena monster - Compared to most PVE gear, they should increase your survivability and at least increase your chances of winning (hence more arena points to buy S3/S4 gear)
