SPriest and Holy SpellsFollow

Myself from a thread on main board wrote:
Yeah, I just hit 20 this weekend on my priest and Mind Flay is awesome. I usually open up with Mind Blast, SW:P, Mind Flay (perhaps another Mind Flay), then wand to death (on occassion I'll throw in a smite, but hardly, and I've been using Holy Fire, but just for fun since it was a new spell =P). Has been working really well and I hardly have any down time at all.

When replying to the "leveling a priest" thread on the main board, it started to get me thinking. Someone had replied that as a shadow priest, you will usually never use holy spells (i.e. Smite, holy fire, etc.)

Well, as of right now I'm just a lowly level 20 priest, but if this is the case, should I even bother training the holy spells (minus the healing ones)?

I tired finding this specific question in the Shadow Priest FAQs, but didn't see it, so hopefully all of you experienced priests can shine some light on the subject.

Thanks for any help.

I suppose in the lower levels you will... Pre-Mind Flay, pre-Shadowform or perhaps pre-Shadow Word: Death.

Yes, train everything. Because you just never know.

It's true that if you're shadow you'll rarely use offensive holy spells, but once in a while a mob will have an ability (kick or some such) that interrupts your cast and keeps you from casting spells in that school for x number of seconds. When that happens, you can either wand or wind up a smite. Also there are mobs that are immune to shadow damage, although you won't encounter these as often as those who are resistant to, say, fire, and mobs whose resistance to shadow is high enough that it makes sense to use holy damage.

That makes sense. Didn't even think about the possibility of mobs interrupting that spell school (minus my mage, where I hardly get spell interrupts, I'm still getting used to the whole spell class thing =P).

Thanks a lot to you both.

for leveling is it better to be a shadow priest if you or 70 and you want to be a holy or discipline priest unlearn your talents.
