The Rogue Compendium [updated 10/26/08]Follow

#152 Dec 10 2008 at 2:20 AM Rating: Decent
On the sticky theo, the 3.0.2 builds for lv80 mutliate has MP, maybe add a line of text or so for TtT, or a 2nd build for it, unless I'm retarded...

MP is better if you don't have anyone else in your group applying the 3% crit bonus right? Paladin, another rogue with it, enh shaman I think... and TtT is better if you do, correct?

TtT is used when there's an elemental shaman, mutilate rogue, or ret paladin in the raid. If you absolutely must min/max, yes, TtT is the optimal solution.

But let's be honest, most people here won't see the exact same people in raids week to week (except maybe Therion, myself, and a few others), so changing your build for a minimal buff every week doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

If you want to spend the gold to get the maximum out of your build, go for it. It's not 100% needed, though.

I would expect a lot more then just a few of us to see the same people, at least similar class makeup raid to raid... I mean, even for people that pug, what pug doesn't have a ret pally? TtT would be more common then MP in that case. Changing per raid is a little much I agree, but there are quite a bit of people who would be almost garunteed having at least one of those classes in every raid. I think you're underestimating it a bit here.

In sunwell, I could always count on certain classes being in the raid, just like I can with my guild for 10/25mans, and pugs always have 5 ret pallies lol.

With how many ret paladins there are as well, it's almost impossible not to have one. I would think TtT would be the more dominant talent choice in that aspect, with less people needing to spec into MP than for ttt.

And for people that solo a lot, it's not terrible to have since it procs like mad with most mobs people grind for farming.

I would think TtT would be in the main mute spec with MP being the 2nd build for "if your raid doesn't have..." rather then it being "if your raid does have..."

I do agree yeah, if you don't have one of those classes, then you need MP to benefit everyone else (and yourself included)... but I don't see why it should be looked passed being put in the sticky at least as a 2nd build with TtT over MP. Maybe it's me, but I haven't raided once since wrath with a pug or with guild, 10man or 25man, where MP would have been more useful. Just annoying getting whispers or questions "why ttt" "why mp" and not being able to say "READ THEOS STICKY GDI!" but EJ has it on their rogue pocket guide already so it's not like the information isn't out there.

For raiding: TtT is only better than MP when the crit buff is present. If the crit buff isn't there, then MP is actually better output. That's why MP is placed higher in order of preference: It's better to have unless you're very sure to have the crit buff from someone else.

Consider also that if you're running a lot of heroics as well as raiding, your groups will appreciate MP more than TtT ;)

Yeah, thats pretty obvious. In fact I said it - I was just suggesting that it's mentioned in the sticky since maybe not everyone reads EJ, and maybe under the mute wotlk builds that the ttt spec or swap was mentioned.

Something that might be an addition to this thread; I fixed the/my sap problem. Like I've mentioned before, the macro on the first page gave me an error and the one from Wowwiki simply didn't work. I've you're facing the same problem as I had, try the following macro:
Quote:
#showtooltip Sap
/targetenemy [noharm][dead]
/cast [harm,nodead] Sap
/cleartarget

While this works a bit different from the old macro, it does work. If you spam it it will basically cycle trough all selectable targets in the area but sap the nearest. You won't have that enemy rogue selected after the sap, but at least you'll get him/her sapped. Works on both enemy players and mobs. Replace /targetenemy with /targetenemyplayer if you want a PvP-only version of it.

Hey Theo, or whomever that keeps the Compendium updated. If/when you get the chance can you update the best Professions to have at level 80 for PvE/PvP.

I have been looking around to find the perks of each, and I am not having any luck. I would appreciate the time whoever put's into it.

Thanks,
Feyras

Almost every profession is equal. IIRC, Herbalism and LW are the two best, but every profession has something of benefit.

I think the only one that doesn't is Engineering (glove enchants are pretty lackluster).

Herbalism: AP proc herb
Inscription: Shoulder enchant
LW: Bracer/Leg patches
Alch: longer flasks
BS: Glove(& bracer?) socket
JC: Dragon's Eye gems
Skinning: static crit buff
Mining: static stam buff
Engineering: glove enchant? Smiley: frown
Enchanting: ring enchants
Tailoring: cloak enchant?

Oh, and I found this in a DK thread on EJ. Probably right, but could also be horribly wrong.

  • Herbalism = 66.7AP (average, requires consumables)
  • Skinning = 25 Crit rating
  • Alchemy = 64 AP (Flask of Endless Rage)
  • Enchanting = 64 AP
  • Jewelcrafting = 42 AP or 21 AGI or 21 STR or 21 Crit Rating or 21 Haste Rating or 21 Hit Rating or 177 ArPen
  • Blacksmithing = 80 AP or 40 AGI or 40 STR or 40 Crit Rating or 40 Haste Rating or 40 Hit Rating or 280 ArPen
  • Leatherworking = 64 AP
  • Inscription = 64 AP
  • Tailoring ~= 50-70 AP

  • JC and BS are based on epic gems, IIRC.

I actually found the profession guide on shadowpanther today. I appreciate you taking the time and posting this in the compendium though. I posted a link to shadowpanther on the forums.

I'm not sure whether it's intended or a bug, but the Nitro-boosts boot enchant (which works like the good old Rocket Boots) works in arena right now. When used correctly that's a pretty nifty addition to your PvP ******** I'd say.

The glove enchants are helpful in one way; they go trough a paladin's BoP. Not that they'll often make a huge difference, but occasionaly, they will. They *nearly* did for me in a WSG match earlier today; a paladin BoPped at ~1K hp but the stupid gloves were on cooldown.

Would you by any chance have tips on a spec for a lvl 50 rogue that needs to get up there fast?

I would just like to thank you all so very much for the information in this thread.

I have managed to increase my AP by 20% and am now killing off lvl 63 mobs in under 5 seconds each and can easily handle 4 at a time while still having over 50% health at the end of the fight. This is all thanks to the info posted above, mainly the info on rotations, talent builds and what NOT to do has helped the most. I have a long way to go still til I am anywhere near as good as all of you good folks that have contributed to this thread but I will get there eventually.

I am a lvl 64 Human Rogue (Monoball on Bronzebeard) who has never run a raid & the last instance I was in was Uldaman many months ago. I only get an hour a day to play while my Mrs is at work lol but once I get to 70+ I hope to be sharing in the fun of doing Raids, at least on the weekends.

Not completely. I need to edit it to take into account that there's a new yellow hit cap on bosses--8%.

And none of the hit numbers are for level 80, they're all for 70.
