But thats not my job!Follow

I am an out an out tank. Spec and kit. Though i have a half copetent (rare & epic) dps kit as well.

My prob is that in a raid i am asked to act as 2nd tank. Which normally means 50% tank 50% dps.

What should i be doing to get my dps up (without re-speccing)? As i said i'm a tank and receiveing 1mil dmg and dealing 0 is what i do ;0)

Cheers (in anticipation)

you can do decent dps by dual wielding and spamming devastate. put together a dps set with lots of strength. tankspot has a whole forum topic dedicated to prot dps.

Just get DPS gear and spam Devastate (and Whirlwind whenever it's up). You'll do pretty decent damage if your gear is good; I know I've done upwards of 1900 DPS as full-on Prot (not even those weird hybrid builds that get Impale) on Teron Gorefiend, without using consumeables.

Every warrior, regardless of spec needs several sets of gear. You need a DPS set, and a tank set. If you're prot spec, you need an avoidance tank set, and an EH tank set. That's not getting into specialty fight resist sets.

So the first thing you do is start building a DPS set. If you can find some level of enjoyment in BGs, go BG for honor and grind away for a few pieces. Get some crafted stuff and gem it for hit, crit, str and stick it in your bag. Get yourself some high dps weapons with dps stats instead of tankin stats (tank weapons tend to be fast but lower in relative dps to their item level). Run some instances for badges and invest in a couple of dps pieces. Find some quests you haven't done that drop half-way decent dps items. Putting together an acceptable dps gear set isn't that hard. Now it won't be anywhere near as a good as a dps warrior's gear will be -- but it will get you up into the level of not sucking horribly :)

When off-spec items drop and no one else is rolling on them, speak up that you need them for your dps set.

Now, learn to use your non-defensive stance abilities. Don't just spam buttons, figure out how to maximize your dps in different situations. Since you're not going to be really arms or fury spec'ed you will be missing elements that make their rotations really work. But you can figure out what works best for you.

I've worked on the math for d/w prot DPS, making a spreadsheet on it, but never finished it.

If your acting as DPS as a prot spec war, you can do a couple of things. Are they asking you to be 2nd on the threat meter? Are they asking you to step out of your spec and DPS, without worrying about threat? Are you soaking cleaves, hateful bolts, etc...?

If your required to actually put out some DPS, dual wield is by far the best choice. Spamming whirlwind, heroic strike and devastate are pretty good DPS strategies. The reason I add whirlwind is because of it's lower TPS, even in berserker stance, devastate can be pretty high TPS. Heroic strike is good for that extra DPS, but it can lead to higher TPS fairly easily.

For your d/w set, focus on Strength above AP. You'll get 10% more from Strength just being prot.

I sometimes act as "2nd tank" so i take with me my BG gear half merc half vengeful, use outfitter to swith, seems to work pretty good for me without respecting, so hit the BG;s for dps gear.

When I am asked to pure DPS, I throw on my PVE solo gear and then remove my PVE shield and equip an offhand weapon instead. It's no where near as good as a specialized DPS set, but it gives decent DPS return.
