Druid lore + gaming help...Follow

#1 Jul 31 2008 at 11:10 PM Rating: Decent
I have a bit of trouble understanding with which race became the first druids. Taurens say they are from oral history and the Night Elves well said they were taught first by Cenarius. If you could clarify this for me that would be great.

Just a bit of speculation here:

"It describes how Malorne, being hunted by the tauren, bargained with Elune in exchange for help. Malorne accepted Elune's help and loved her as part of the deal. Elune gave birth to Cenarius from that relationship." --- Wowwiki.com

Does this mean the Tauren created druidism or at least caused it?

Also looking to make a druid in the near future and was wondering as to which race has the upper hand in racials? What is the best spec to go for leveling and what is the end game expectation (tanking, dps, healer)?

Thanks very much for the help in advance.

I would say that the choice of race is more a personal preference as I don't think either race has an upper hand. For talent builds I recommend Feral. My Druid is Feral spec'd and after getting cat form at level 20 I have had no problems in leveling. Can't comment on end game as my toon is currently at level 53. I will say that of all the alts I created I like my kitty Druid best.

Racials are a bit of a mixed bag for Druids.

For Feral, Tauren have 5% more base hp, Nightelves have +1% dodge.

The other Racial differences don't really help too much. Nightelves can stealth in any form (except bear?), but as Druids can stealth in cat form anyway.

Tauren have a short AoE stun with warstomp that stuns 5 guys for 2 secs, which can be good for interrupting or running away. Can be cast in Caster, Moonkin and Tree forms only though.

Nightelves have a handy whisp form when they die, which makes them move at +50% movespeed, which is great for long corpse runs.

Both have a nature resistance of Ten, and Tauren have +10 to Herbalism.

As for who the first Druids are, it appears Tauren were the first, but at some point, forgot, were distracted, turned away from druidism. It's mentioned on Wowwiki that they were the first, however I'm pretty sure that was just whipped up to explain Tauren druids in the first place, which is why it doesn't match up exactly with other lore, such as The War of the Ancients. Either way, Malfurion was the first Nightelf Druid.

EDIT: Didn't see your questions about spec. Generally, feral's praised as a leveling spec, but if like me you prefer to cast spells, you can level as Balance fine. Might be a little slower (and these days it'd really be just little) but if you don't like Meleeing, it'll seem slower.

Endgame Druids can do anything. Tank, Melee DPS, Heal, Caster DPS, we can do em all brilliantly. We offer things to the table that are different to all other classes (when was the last time a mage suddenly helped healing when the priest died - or rezzed the priest?)

The First Druid

Millennia before the night elves' interest in arcane magic led to the Great Sundering, Malfurion Stormrage came across several legends that referenced the mysterious Cenarius. Malfurion had always had great reverence for the natural world, although the night elves as a race had long since abandoned any interest in such matters. He shared these legends with his twin, Illidan Stormrage, and their mutual friend, Tyrande Whisperwind. The three night elves decided that it would be an exciting adventure to search for Cenarius, though in truth they no more believed in the demigod than the rest of their people did.

It wasn't long before scattered plants and animals of Azeroth brought tidings of these three night elves to Cenarius. Surprised and intrigued, Cenarius located the night elves and looked into their hearts. He saw great promise in Malfurion, a promise that made up Cenarius' mind.

The laughing trio was shocked into silence when Cenarius stepped out of a shadowed thicket. He introduced himself and offered to teach them the druidic arts. They accepted eagerly. Malfurion proved a quick and talented student, but his brother was clumsy and quickly grew impatient. For her part, Tyrande was already a novice in the Sisterhood of Elune and so had dedicated herself to the goddess above all others. Cenarius knew that Malfurion alone would go on to become a druid.

Ah ok. So what class best associates with the Tauren society then?

I think tauren were similar to druids but weren't quite full fledged. Shamanism + Druidism are quite similar with a few key differences so they could make a claim to be the first druids, but really, malfurion was the first real druid (as they are now).

As for your Tauren question, there's really no wrong answer, every class fits well with the tauren, they're in love with nature (druid + shaman) and they're also warriors/hunters so you can't really go wrong with anything you chose.

Taurens FTW. They are hands down the coolest class, and they are part of the more interesting faction.

Oh....and Alliance are all scum! :)

Nelf 4 lyfe. Basically it kind of just goes down to what you want to look at. A Cow, or a purple dude. Both have nice qualities.

Nelf, that extra 1% in dodge is something you wont find yourself stacking with gems/gear if you want to tank.

Tauren, war stop is so god damn annoying in pvp when you're up against tauren druids.

I went night elf because I enjoy having a more lithe looking character vs a huge *** bulky tauren.

Since you plan on rolling a druid in the near future, I suggest feral or balance for leveling seeing as you can off spec heal almost anything thats pre-BC if you have a healing set. If you do end up going balance, you can just use your balance set as a healing set, thats what I did. 1-70 as balance was a little slower, but I in my experience just feel that end game balance is faster at killing mobs than feral.

Have to agree there. Was helping our GM farm the Sunfury attack plans on his Feral and he was surprised with how fast I was killing them.

I think balance kills faster, but Feral has less downtime, as feral I only had to shift and heal after every 6th or so kill, and then only if I'd been unlucky with iLoTP.

With balance you ahev to stop and drink more.

I suspect it's pretty much a wash when you add it all up.

I've got a 70 feral but have been curious about Boomkin for a while, so I created a 2nd druid and am taking him Balance. It's not easy, and i've been fighting the urge to shift into bear.
