So I just recently went ahead and specced Discipline. I took the Talent that returns 50% of damage absorbed to the damage-doer. Does anyone have any idea as to how much of a DPS increase this is? Has anyone noticed a decrease in fight duration from this talent?

I don't believe it increases your personal dps at all. It doesn't increase aggro or anything. I recently specced from disc to holy, and my reflective shield is one of the biggest things that I miss. I didn't realize how much I depended on it until I was fighting a mob as holy and wondering why the mob/player wasn't dying.

Just think about it for a moment. When you are in a BG and a rogue comes up on you and hits you for 1800 or what not, it hits him for 600. Put that on top of your SW:P, Mind Blast, etc., that is almost like a second DoT. You are making them kill themselves :P

You did get improved PW:S as well, right?

Hmm, I've actually always overrated it. I figured that if I a rogue crits you for say 3,5K, you'd return half of it. I forgot that it's only in play when the damage actually gets absorbed as well. Imagine a fight against a rogue in which you manage to shield yourself 3 times. That's about 2400 free damage done to him. While that is pretty nice, is it worth 5 points? In an arena spec I suppose it can't be missed, but... thanks for making me think about this, I've just figured I shouldn't be too worried about not having the talent.

Yea, this talent is pretty much just for PvP/leveling. I only used this spec for my BG rep grinding phase. If you want to do any instances or what not, you won't need it at all.

Edit: Spelling > me today, three times, lol

After having done much research on this skill and wayyyyyy to much playing of a disc holy priest

i must say that this skill is a must no matter what you plan to do.

dont forget that armor is calculated into the shield.

so if you shield a druid that has 76% damage mitigation through his armor. than that means your shield will protect him for much more than a simple 1700.. lets say a mob hits for 2k.. that 2k is then halved by the shield and 1k is sent back.. BUT BEFORE the shield is damaged armor gets to decrease the damage to the shield. so lets say 70 % damage mitigation through armor would turn a 2k hit into a 1.3k hit..

i forget the exact math of it.. but i have played a healer in many pvp instances and kara raids as disc/holy and trust me nothing prevents spike damage better.

and the damage returns from it are awsome.. it will return a sh*tton of damage over the course of a fight.

Most rage bassed tanks will hate having on for trash mobs so do not throw it up on them for that. but on bossfights it is a godsend and they really cannot be more happy to have it.

pws+ps+pom+renew= HUGE SPIKE PREVENTION.

i would say that a disc/holy priest in pve can keep a tank up better than any other healing spec for priest.

and the shield does suprisingly well on damage returns.

Yeah Slammerofkooter that is what I was wondering about. I couldn't figure out if the damage returned is half of the damage that would have been taken, or half of the damage that is actually dealt. That makes a HUGE difference in how good this Talent is.

I have been playing around with it a bit, and have noticed that if I am fighting multiple opponents it is nice because I damage them all a bit. The big bonus however comes from fighting only one opponent and having that opponent take 50% of the damage that they deal to me to the face. The difference is that multiple opponents eat through the shield faster, and are thereby damaged for less a piece, while a single opponent really takes it deep in their backside.

Plagai: Yeah I definitely did.

Reflective Shield really makes Power Word: Shield worth its mana cost.
I use it all the time.

As for shielding warrior and bear tanks, you can put the shield on them once they get above 60 or so rage. People used to be like, "No shield evar on the tank!" because it reduces rage (tanks do not get rage for absorbed damage), but once the rage starts going, the shield's effect is minimal (the 100 rage limit gimps rage more than PW:S in most tanking situations) and it's healing wasted if you don't use it every 15 seconds, I feel. The damage reflected does add up, by the way.

Something else about Reflective Shield that I found rather amusing

If you Power Word Shield yourself, then toss a Shadow Word: Death at a target, and it doesn't kill them, this is what happens: (for me with my lack of spell damage)

Shadow Word death hits mob for 900 Damage
Shadow Word death absorbed by shield
Reflective Shield hits mob for 450 Damage

I was really surprised the first time this happened and I tested it a few more times to make sure I wasn't just dreaming or something, but it worked every time even when the mob wasn't in melee range

Nice way to finish off mobs quicker and make usage of the shield anyways
