Beasts you want to tame?Follow

#52 Aug 20 2008 at 8:21 PM Rating: Excellent
Incidentally, I did a respec today to see if you can use the exotic if you have to respec. Sadly, you are required to have BM trained down to that talent in order to use one. But I have also decided to try out a pure BM spec and OMG...

Can you just not use it if you respec, or do you lose the pet and have to tame it again later?

The pet itself doesn't poof, you just lose the ability to control an exotic until you respec up to that talent again.

That's not too hideous.

With the amount of pets you can have, having one slot taken by an exotic for when you do full BM spec is probably fine.

Using that logic, you can be the one changing specs for a given role and have a pet tailor made for each 'spec' and possibly one generic. That would be one way of working the system I guess.

Obviously, the exotic gives away your spec though. Anyone will know you are BM spec just by looking at the pet. That's something of a first for Hunters.

I know this is unlikely, but I want a killer rabbit, squirrel and other tiny critters to tame.

Here's the Devilsaur pet as well. RaptorJeezus isn't nearly as effective as the worm but he's young yet :)

It would be nice if they put in the new talents and implemented the exotic pets and level jumping on tame before the expansion is released, similar to the patch before TBC.

This would mean that we could get our devilsaurs, silithids and such up to speed before we start leveling ourselves. Otherwise it'd be too much of a pain.

In LK, if you tame a pet it will be brought up to 5 levels below you if it is more than 5 levels below you. So if a level 80 hunter tames Mazzeranche, the pink feathered friend will be level 75. If they are not more than 5 levels above you, they stay where they are.

For me, I am actually thinking of the 51-point talent mainly because my spec already puts enough talent points in BM to use it, and I have a point left over. Might as well get the devilsaur then, eh?

Of the three, I actually prefer the tundra worm. I really like his aggro control, damage output and venom spit attack he has for boosting my dps a bit. It may not do too much damage on the initial shot but it does stack and drops roughly 520 armor off a mob with a full 5 shots on it.

I've been doing lvl 73 elites with him and not really having to worry about peeling aggro off him as much as I do with a cat pet.

So the worm does some nice dps? Does it have a good amount of health? I am interested in the tundra worm in particular, but just saw the new rhinos... How was your impression of the Rhino's thus far Wordaen?

Both the rhinos and the Devilsaurs are fun to play with. But they are huge, clunky pets.

The devilsaur has some great attack animations, but I agree with others that the endless ground stomping is only cool for the first 10 minutes. After that it does become annoying. It did intimidate the crap out of a rogue that tried to gank me though (heh).

I haven't tamed a moth, crab, or turtle yet (all of these are within the starting areas). I may tame a crab, but I'm looking forward to leveling up to grab a hyena.

They'll need to redo the pet bar. There are far too many pet abilities for the simple 4 slotter bar we have now. And cower is switching itself on randomly .. so right now we need to go into our spell book ocassionally and make sure it's not active.

Pet aggro control is still an issue. As well as our quickly depleted mana supply.

I'm sure Blizzard will have the mind to fix all of thise before the release of the actual game.

I'd consider a pterrordax or a mana worm as some exotic pets. Not to say I'd necessarily use them if they were available, but they're definitely exotic choices. Basilisks, imo, aren't that exotic, and should be a normally-tameable beast. I would have picked them much sooner than moths.

My last trip to Un'goro and the rest of the dinos down there were still untameable. I keep crossing my fingers though.

Personally, I have no desire to have a moth either. Attack of a killer bunny would be more intimidating and fun. Just MPO.

The Rhino is extremely slow and loses aggro way too fast for my liking. The Raptor, while fun as hell, does not appear to have the same DPS output overall as my worm does. Granted, some of that is due to level and spec but overall, the worm holds aggro better, has better DPS and has a better overall survivability rate.

Also, so far I have see Silithid critters, Tundra Worms, Devilsaurs, Rhinos, Tundra Wolves, Chimaeras and a few other pets. I will post more as I find them.

Has anyone tried a hyena yet? I plan on it as soon as possible.

Also, I was pleasantly surprised by my crab. Holds aggro like a champ.

I did tame a bear cub for fun. Absolutely adorable *and* humongous. It seems to tower over my troll. I don't think I'll be able to send it into combat though. Damn thing is just too cute. Reminds me of the stay-puff marshmallow guy.

Wait, Tundra Wolves? New kind of pet, or just a white wolf you want to try and tame? Has anyone tried the new wasps? They seem like the perfect pet for my Belf hunter to be. Just wish they came at a lower level.

Just outside of Warsong Hold there are a bunch of Tundra Wolves that look kind of like shaggy greyhound dogs. They teach Bite 9 and hold aggro pretty decently but I prefer my worm still :)

New Rhino exotic pet family skill: Stampede: Your rhino slams nearby enemies within [RADIUS] yards, causing 49 to 65 damage and knocking them back 150 yards.

From http://wotlkwiki.info/index.php/Hunter#tab=Changes under 'pet skills'

Looks like rhino's are going to be a good contender for pvp pets.
Note that the 150 yard's is likely a typo, and probably is 15 range.
