Ok if i'm supposed to use swords for a 20/0/41 build, what's the point of shadowstep if I don't have ambush, backstab, or mutilate? Garrote?

Shadowstep is all about controlling the person you are killing, also for the mobility as said above.

Garrote's better than Ambush anyway.

Still it depends though. Ambush is not something you can count on, but I had a 2v2 fight yesterday that made me glad of being a dagger ShS spec. It was a shockadin and me vs a restodruid and a hunter. So basically, I let my partner hit away at the hunter, knowing the restodruid would jump out of stealth when the hunter was at 30% hit points. Bad choice, ambush and 5pt eviscerate killed him before the druid could heal him up.

Yeye, these fights are excentric and the restodruid was a noob, but you can't deny I won a battle because of ambush. Specially since my gear is pretty weak (mostly S1), an outlasting fight is something we wouldn't have won.

No, winning because the other team sucks doesn't mean you won because you were daggers.

Sad thing is he's probably got a better rating than me, b/c my teams never care about rating.

Well alright. Point was that ambush is the simplest type of burst from stealth you can get, and that occasionaly that can deal a decisive blow since it's a lot of damage out of nowhere; people don't expect that.

I'll just repeat theo. Noobs don't expect it... Any decent druid won't stay in stealth while his partner gets bashed to less than 30% or run off to drink when his partner is close to dying.

Think about what you did. You go into the arena. Pally and Hunter fight for a little, two stealth classes, no thorns or MotW on pally so you KNOW its a rogue and he's gonna pop out and slap something. So a team who basically knows your a double dps burst set up lets you get one of there guys basically dead before trying even unstealthing... Their winners.

You know what I'd expect less than an Ambush? A Paladin to beat a hunter in 1v1.

Srsly, that team just sucked.

you play with a shockadin!!! you lose all authority as a source for advice.

and garrote would have done just as well.
