Fun Ideas for Ele in WotLKFollow

As I mentioned these are some ideas I think would be fun and balanced (IMO) in WotLK, these would make elemental spec more viable in both PvE and PvP while IMO fixing what blizzard is trying to do in the expansion for elemental shaman and also fixing current talents that have been altered so much they just don't work out as intended.

First of all Elemental Focus has been changed so much it just is not what it was (but at this point I see why 100% chance on criticals with spells to make next spell 100% free was a bit over powered). As it is it doesn't seem to have too much of a problem but at the same time it does not work 100%. If a shaman criticals it is intended to buff the shaman to make mana usage less intensive but if we score a criticals twice in a row we are not benefited in any way. A simple fix to this spell is to make our spell criticals give us back 40% of the mana it costed as soon as it lands as a proc not a 40% reduction on next spell. If we spend 300 mana on a Lightning Bolt we would get back 120 mana as an example. This change would actualy reward shaman and scale better.

Next talent I would look at would be Lightning Overload, The only problem I see with it is it is uncontrollable. It would be stronger talent in both pvp and pve if it gave shaman a charge and at 4 charges it would activate a buff to make our next Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning Spell deal 50% more damage with 50% threat reduction for pve purposes of coarse. This would mean we would get these procs in pve and pvp when we want them and would work better with elemental mastery. Being able to gain these charges and unleash it in pvp would be a great for when it is needed for us to burst down an enemy. New talent would give Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning Spells a 20/40/60/80/100% chance to provide an Lightning Charge, with 4 charges we can use our Lightning Overload ability.

For new talents I would say Paralysis needs a big overhaul as it stands going 28 points into enhancement scales much stronger then this talent does and forces elemental shaman to lose a lot of utility from restoration tree. Enhancement shaman don't need things like increased range on totems they are close to those they buff at all times, we don't always have this luxury, cheaper totems help us out quite a bit, we need our mana to dps 25% is a lot since we need to refresh totems every 2 minutes. 5% crit to lightning spells helps us maintain mana... Paralysis being buffed to be equal to or stronger then Mental Quickness and Dexterity is in favor of elemental shamans and I really hope this is looked at.

Totem of wrath does not scale properly as it stands other ranged casters will be hit capped only the shaman that casts the totem actually needs its benefit since we gear around it no other caster will or should scale around totem in serious raiding environment (if shaman dies or is not in range the caster is screwed out of a lot of dps). Furthermore it requires elemental shaman to chose between Flame tongue totem or this, aka more spell damage or more crit for the raid. Making this totem increase heals and damage of spells by 5% as well as what it currently does would not be an over powered change to what is suppose to be a game breaking 41 point talent.

Many shaman are also unhappy with the Lightning, Earth, and Fire talent on the O Boards. While I like the idea of this type of talent I can see room for improvement. Increasing all Shock spells by 5 yards when maxed, keeping the freeze proc intact from frost shock and increase periodic damage from flame shock. The major change would be to increase the affect of earth shock making the duration of the magic school lock out by a total of 1 second longer when fully talented, giving shaman an extra second to keep down heals or avoid incoming damage from offensive casters.

The last change I would say is more of a personal hate for Mortal Strike, make Astral Shift also proc against Mortal Strike... I HATE MORTAL STRIKE WITH A PASSION...

These changes I think would make shaman class more fun and more useful in both pvp and pve, without making the class over powered. It would help help our mana problem, it would provide more control with our dps, the charge aspect will give us a bit more to do then just hit same couple buttons every few seconds, and the increased range with all shock spells would also increase our utility with these spells in both pve and pvp.

Anyhow what do you guys think? Have any Ideas of your own? I doubt anything like this would see the light anyhow but I guess I really like to theory craft when it comes to making and fixing talents lol. There is also a good chance what I would consider Balanced may be a bit one sided since I really enjoy being a Lightning Slinging Shaman.

At the very least a fun discussion to talk about while we wait and see what blizzard really does =P

Yes and no. With the current crit values Shaman aim for and achieve, it's true that Elemental Focus is often a half-wasted proc. However, if we're going to be using a spell rotation involving Flame Shock and Lava Burst in WotLK, we won't be critting quite as much (remember, most of our crit talents only affect our lighting spells), and so we should be getting a little more use out of it. You also have to consider the cost of our spells. Being able to take 40% off of an expensive Flame Shock after you get an Elemental Focus proc actually saves us far more mana than getting 40% of a dirt cheap Lightning Bolt cost back immediately.

Lightning Overload always has been and always will be a talent designed to increase the Shaman's average DPS over time, which is why the 20% proc rate tends not to matter. It's a raiding talent, plain and simple, and most of the reason people see a problem with it at all is that they continually try to force it into PvP builds (despite what some people say on a nearly constant basis every time it comes up) and then get disillusioned with how little they actually do see it proc. The simple solution is simply not to take it in a PvP build if you don't feel you are getting enough benefit from it.

Paralysis does suck. The damage increase is nice, but the proc is pretty much aimed at PvP, yet has an extremely low activation rate on a single spell that is honestly just not cast often enough to make it worthwhile. Unless Blizzard makes it better, just skip it and put the talent points to use elsewhere in a PvP build. Raiding builds will probably still want it for the damage increase, I would imagine.

ToW is very lackluster, but what you're proposing would be completely overpowered for a single talent point. As it stands, take it for mid-to-late-game PvE, skip it for anything else, and don't worry about it beyond that.

I still think this talent is perfectly fine. It's got plenty of merit that warrants taking it in both PvE and PvP. If anything, all that needs to be changed is to remove the requirement to get to Thunderstorm. That way people can take it if they want it, skip it if they don't.

While Mortal Strike does suck for us, Astral Shift is already hands-down the single biggest defensive talent for the Shaman class (yes, even better than Spirit Link) and will easily be one of the best defense-oriented PvP talents in the entire game if it goes live as is. This ability doesn't need any more of a buff.

I completely mathed this wrong anyway now that I am reading it again would have to be 80% mana back and I can never see blizzard do that =P

LO is a fine talent but more control with same over all affect would make LO pimp.

Lets say at 80 elemental shaman has 1500 spell power, that means paralysis would provide about 150 spell power more for our lightning spells... self buffed without paralysis and going 28 points in enhancement gets us about 300 spell power to all of our spells. Paralysis has implies pve and pvp when you look at talent but only.y performs ok in pvp for proc, in pve it stands no chance as it is.

I pulled 5% out of my **** but i still think ToW needs a buff.

I like this talent too but the more I think of flame shock in my rotation the more I want increase range on my flame shock =P
