kaz shield vs. za shield?!Follow

#1 Jul 29 2008 at 6:48 PM Rating: Decent
so I've had the za shield for a couple weeks, my guild has hyjal on clear and 5/9 bt. the only realistic upgrades for shields is the kaz shield, becuz illidan is out of the picture. now my za shield gives block value and rating, while the kaz shield gives some more armor, and hit and defense instead of the block.
from wat i understand, stacking defense past 490 is pretty useless compared to the individual stats (dodge/parry/block), and my hit isnt too bad.
so basically im wondering if the kaz shield is even better, or maybe just for certain situations?
any advice wood be great, o and i lost a roll on the kaz shield with a 130 roll outta 1000 :(

Kaz'rogal is WAY better for nearly everything. Going from the ZA shield to Kaz'rogal, these are the changes you will see, assuming you're using both as a survival shield which means stam socketing:

+530 AC
+1 stam
+28 defense
+21 hit
-19 block rating
-23 block value

You're losing block rating, which is a generally pretty useless stat, and exchanging a bit of block value for superior threat generation from the hit. Kaz'rogal is vastly better in terms of survivability, with increases in AC, Stam, AND raw avoidance from the defense.

If you manage to get the shield, don't hestitate in dropping the ZA shield for it. The Bulwark can take up a spot in your block value set, but that's where it needs to stay.

thanks for the reply, very informative, and i do seem to believe that kaz is that much better. however, one thing im kind of oncfused about is defense after 490. isnt it a bit overrated once uve hit the "uncrit" stage of 490? since all it does is raise your dodge/block/parry minimally? ive heard it's a lot better to go for each individual tat over just raw defense, any comments?

Past 490, 1 def is roughly equal to 1 dodge. I don't have the exact numbers in front of me, but something like 18 dodge = 1% pure avoidance while 20 def = 1% pure avoidance. So def is not useless past 490. Both def and dodge are superior to parry for avoidance per value.

Armor is a linear growth curve. 1% more armor is 1% more armor regardless of any other factors. Stamina's value grows exponentially with respect to armor, so choosing stamina over armor is almost always the right choice.

All that said, if neither shield addresses a specific deficiency in your gear set, then I would choose the one which has the higher itemization level. I've rarely gone wrong making that choice myself.

Yeah defense is definitely worth stacking after 490. In fact, Anticipation is still an incredibly useful talent even when you have plenty of defense from armor. That said, there is actually a hard cap on defense at 550. If you are getting close to that, get more dodge instead.

Someone doesn't know what they're talking about. One guess who it is.

Got a screenshot? Seen plenty of times when a war pops a flask they only get 5 more defense, up to the max of 550.

Protip; the Flask of Fortitude gives 10 Defense Rating, which is equivalent to ~5.5 Defense Skill.

Thank you, come again.

In addition to what RP said, here ya go. I had to put on crappy defense trinkets to get it up there, but there it is. Maybe be less of a smart *** next time, especially when you're wrong. There's plenty of people like myself and RP on these forums that are better at both that, AND game mechanics.
