70s soloing instance..Follow

#1 Jul 29 2008 at 5:19 AM Rating: Decent
So I've run Blackrock Depths and Sunken Temple each with a level 70 character leading the group. Once was a warlock, feral druid, and then a hunter. Just out of curiosity, will my shadowpriest be able to almost solo such a dungeon? As the lock was also restricted to clothy protectiveness, I'm inclined to say that I could do it :D but when I went, the lock used her voidwalker as a tank. Likewise did the hunter with his pet and the feral druid was a complete tank.

So, my question in short, can a 70 shadowpriest lead through an instance some 20 levels below him with minor healing aid?

with healing aid, and decent gear. BRD and Sunken Temple you would have to be geared. Not full tier 6 but not a fresh 70. If you have a healer healing you it would work even better.

Mara is no problem for me, I've run that in nothing more than Kara gear, and I'm very sure I can take on ST and BRD. Strat and Scholo I'm not sure of though, I know a rogue who's been solo'ing them since Kara, but I'm no rogue :x

The biggest problem is keeping control of mob packs. They have a little more health than most level 70 mobs, hit about half as hard, but you're often taking 2-4 on at once, and if you get in an ****** moment, you can't exactly just fear and run.

ST and BRD are actually pretty tough. I doubt a spriest could handle them without some really good gear. Too many mobs at once and little or no CC. You'll take too many interrupts and the damage will add up quickly.

Scholo is very hard to solo due to the skeletons that are immune to all magic damage, you pull about 3 and while they don't hit super hard, you're hitting even less than they are so you might have trouble there and some of the later melee mobs can hit like trucks even at that level (like the butcher).

Highest I've been able to solo (while running a friend's alt through stuff) was ST and it got a little hairy at times. I havn't tried too much more than that though (aside from scholo)

I have been to scholomance to farm for the lifestealing enchant (obvious, at 70, kara level gear or less), and as a smiter, not shadow. It helps that there are lots of undead there, as you can shackle. No way i could have killed a boss alone though.

Did ST last night. Really easy for me for the most part, if you had less gear you'd just have to make sure you have plenty of mana in case of ****** moments (there were a couple pulls where I pulled with just enough mana to multi-dot the 2 elites, and ended up wanding down the 5 nonelites with some help of the lock I was running :p). I just did VT/SWP on every elite in a group and then Blast/Death/Flay with shield on against the non-elites.

Worst part by far was the Avatar of Hakkar event, that I almost died at due to running OOM, so if you're not in T6-equivalent you might need to solicit some help. Make sure your friend knows to stay out of the way of any mobs, and make sure they activate the fires immediately. The boss is easy, the adds are the pain.

Double-post!

Strat is okay. Strat Dead you have to make sure you avoid the rat-traps, pull all the single-pulls in your path (never try and skip, as I found out, or pats can end up aggroing them and killing you), and you can get around every pull of more than 2. I go in the back entrance, check for Skul, kill Hearthsinger and The Unforgiven (make sure you clear all pats if you're not in badges/T6), and then do a standard 45-minute run. Spider hit hard and the interrupts from his spawns are annoying as hell, and mana can be a problem during the abomination "event" and as Rammstein comes out. Didn't get a chance to try Baron yet, since I didn't avoid the skellies, and didn't have time for Strat live but from what I remember it should be easier than Strat dead.

From what I did of Scholo, it's easier than Strat. I ended up getting a raid invite before I could kill Jandice, the Doctor miniboss, or the last boss, but otherwise it was fairly simple. The "magic-immune" skellies are vulnerable to Smite, and if you can kill Rattlegore's trash you can kill him (he only hits as hard as the trash, and about half as fast). Plus there's the one room loaded with casters where, after clearing out a few pats, I could do my normal DoT-up-a-whole-room-and-watch-them-drop :D

I can solo mara, st, scholo, and strat on my resto shaman (it would take me hours longer than the average person, but i would never die!) -
but for pure survivability sake I know i cant do it on my shadow priest. Even with a cc it would be near impossible, mostly because of the packs of mobs and no aoe. The thought of even attempting it makes me want to cry. Good luck to everyone who attempts it. I wanna see your progress!

For Mara and ST, it's a matter of multi-dotting a whole pack with SWP while keeping yourself alive, supplemented with SWD, wand, and shield+blast/flay. In Strat, it's a matter of avoiding every pull of 3+ mobs. In Scholo, it's a matter of being level 70 and resisting 95% of the spells they cast, combined with Shackle and multi-dotting at times. While I can solo Strat, I don't think I could run someone through it, I skip too many pulls.

I've soloed marauden with my holy priest

Not too difficult

Couldn't do blackrock depths however, too much hittyness and too much life to burn through, although I'm sure a dps class could probably do it with reasonable gear, not sure of a shadow priest though
