the Madness of an Aggressive Pet Hunter.Follow

The Madness is not that crazy or is it ?

For as long as i can remember (once i figured out how to properly ? play ) i have kept my pets most times on Aggressive , i still have full control with the stay and follow and still use the attack button at times.

My reasoning is mainly that the pet was a wild beast and deserves a little choice in what it attacks , but saying that if not for my pet attacking mobs i would not have bothered with i would not have seen as many greens and blue drops as i do , and i have lost count of the trash grey mobs that drop me a nice profitable blue.

Many i guess will say they have tried it but could not control the pet or it got them killed , i have never died because my pets were set on aggressive , i use the controls as we all should and still select targets even if my pet wants to attack other mobs , no biggie there in control.

I am not saying that i would use it in any group unless it was friends and they were ready and able to control any outcome from my pets pulling aggro or disrupting game play , but used in normal questing it can be a fun tool to use even if any journey will take at least twice as long.

I can agree that sometimes it just is not worth having my pet on aggressive like in ratchet with pvp players about , so in towns i almost always (if remembered ) switch it to defensive , but i enjoy the disruption my pets have on my questing ( and the extra gold they bring )

Many will disagree with having pets on aggressive but hey its there why not use it at times , as an example my leatherworker yesterday was doing a lowish quest with fast spawning skinable mobs all i did was stand in the middle and select the pets target and fire away , far easier and faster than select a target send pet then fire as i was having real fun trying to keep up with my pet , final result was quite a few stacks of leather and some nice greens in far less time than having to keep selecting a target and waiting for my pet to get to the mob.

Also i tend to think the pet is getting some fun out of it as if you have ever tried my way you will know the pets seems to sometimes get into a killing frenzy ( thats the only way i can describe it ) as it will often travel outside my shooting range to attack a mob then run after any within sight sometimes swapping to a nearby target , i do have to keep my eye on the pets health but not that hard to do , and the amount of times my pets spot a mob hiding when i am not doing the tracking for that type of mob is very useful as well.

I expect many will disagree with my playstyle but i have done it at all levels for the past year from 10 to 70 and never get any real problems as i will switch back to defensive if needed , which so far has only been when PvP players might be about .

Plus points as i said already more drops also most times more exp gained per hour .

I can see only one real fault with it and that is every trip takes a lot longer .

i was going to say a lot more but i expect a few will say i am crazy anyway and it is not the right thing to do , but we all play in different ways and for questing it is my way.

I think that as long as your making your gaming experience Fun then thats all that matter, you play the game the way you want. I personally don't do that unless I just want to mess around while in a lowbie zone, just seeing my pet slaughter things in two shots puts a smile on my face.

Then again I was currently in a T5 guild that raided a lot(not anymore, damn summer) and also doing dailies on the Isle of Quel'Danas, So I always had my pet on passive, cause you never know what trouble your pet being on aggressive or even defensive will get you in. That is if some tard decides to try to attack you and your pets on defensive/aggressive and starts attacking that player well then not only is the player dead but so are you and maybe your pet as well.

But like you said you know like in neutral towns to take your pet off aggressive, so your good.

EDIT: This is Amayu, didn't see that my BF hadn't logged off after using this site last.

As long as you are soloing, have fun RPing with your pet.

Just watch where you go. I was flagged a bit closer than was wise to an Alliance city, so I put my pet on Aggressive for that added bit of warning and safety.

Squeal! Charge! Gore! Gank! Some poor flagged level 5 was dead before I even had time to react.

I am all about teaching Alliance about running around flagged, but I prefer to leave the small fry alone.

What the heck is a 5th level doing flagged? A stiff breeze and they die, and they aren't likely to find an opposing faction in a starting territory that is at that level.

I am always amazed on the lightbringer realm at how many on both sides at very low level that go PvP , to me it is their own fault if they die , same as when the enemy attack a town , i mean what point is there in attacking a character that is ?? level , we all know that is a one shot death if they want , i also check to see if someone is flagged when i am on my healers as i dislike being flagged for no good reason if i buff or heal them .

My Pets though like being on aggressive as i am sure they are thinking "hey thats one of those mobs that hurt me when i was little ".

Seriously though i started this thread to find any others that play as i do , the reason being it used to be if the mob was a lot lower in level it was an instant attack but as the level of mob got closer to my level it was a closer range and less chance the pet would attack so easily and if the mob was higher level the chances were the mob would attack me first before my pets would attack.

Now it seems they have changed something a little as my pet is quite happy to attack higher level mobs , still not as fast and at the same distance but i have noticed a difference in the game play.

This is something i like in the way the pets are now working , it seems subtle changes are still going on i guess to ready us for the expansion which i am looking forward to , my guess is i will be doing a lot of ? not sure of the word but retraining ? i guess when it comes out , perhaps even starting another hunter and trying all the pet families out and all the different trees we will be getting , Am i mad , the answer to that is probably yes.

In another thread i mentioned about my hunter that had some fun with tracking issues but that seems to have fixed itself , or was sorted out by the last small patch ( i am not sure when it started either as it was not always like it ), it used to be a bit weird wondering what my pet was doing , things like going off my track yet not to attack something but also not avoiding an obstacle , there was also an issue with the pet sometimes ignoring a mob and going right past them to attack a mob in the distance , all been sorted now it seems .

I for one enjoy relaxing just questing outside of instances and trying to learn all there is about Hunters and the other classes , and am waiting for the next expansion , my guess is i will be starting a few new characters the same as i did when BC came out , with all the changes they seem to be trying i can see it will be fun ..
