As a demo spec'd soon to be affliction spec'd lock, I'm working on getting my gear up to par for kara. I'd love to hear some of the stats for kara entry so that I can kind of gauge where I am. Also what enchants? Obviously anything that will increase spell damage, but from what I've found there really isn't that many enchants for that specific area; so would I be better to go with +stamina or +intellect. Seems like there is a good argument for either since increased stamina gives me the opportunity when using life tap to get more mana, but since ideally I won't be getting any hits, would it just be simplier and easier on the healers to just increase my intellect.

As far as gems go, I know that I should go with strictly gems that increase spell damage, but what about spell crit? I know that I can crit on shadowbolts, but since most of my spells are dots, they can't crit right? So getting gems with +spell crit really wouldn't do as much for me as getting gems for +spell damage

Start with Warlock Den's thread on Kara prep then head over to Elitist Jerks PVE lock thread.

Good luck.

The enchants I would personally suggest are +6 stats to chest, +dmg to bracers, spell hit to gloves, subtelty to cloaks, +dmg to weapons or if you're willing to shell out the money for it soulfrost, and vitality to boots.

As for gems as a raiding lock you will probably be best served gemming for hit until capped and then start gemming for damage. Hope that helps.

Vitality to boots is ok, but I'd go for Boar's Speed. On fights where you have to move out of stuff, it makes a difference, plus it gives some Sta too. Not as much as Vitality I don't think, but still enough.

Vitality is like 4% health/mana regen, Not an important stat for a Warlock as we do not stack mp5. Boar's Speed is far Superior

That's right , I was thinking Sta to boots(which sadly is what I have on mine, I kept hoping for an upgrade and never got it, oh well, I've stopped raiding anyway)

Enchants:

Gloves: Spell hit or Spell damage.
Bracers: Damage > Healing > Stats
Boots: Boar's Speed > Fortitude
Chest: +6 stats
Legs: Runic Spellthread
Weapon: Soulfrost > 40 spell damage

Gemming:

Until spell hit cap (not before): Veiled Noble Topaz > Great Dawnstone (or epic equivalent) for everything. In your blue slots, use Glowing Nightseye (or epic equivalent) as needed for spell hit socket bonuses (as in FSW) or meta gem requirements, but nothing else.

After spell hit, slap in Runed Living Rubies/Crimson Spinels. Don't gem for crit.

if you are pre-kara which you said, you want a lot of spell damage for going affliction, you should worry about trying to get up to a destro build until you are mostly epix gears, buy low level gems and forget about soulfrost until you get prince's dagger, even then you might not want to shell out the gold for that.

Great Dawnstones in every slot until 190-202 spell hit. Then start grabbing spell hit gear, then once gear gets you to the cap, replace Great Dawnstones with Runed Living Rubies.

Gloves: Epic gloves from Reg MgT. Spell Hit Enchant.
Cloak/Shoulders from MgT. Subtley/Inscription
Spellstrike Hood/Pants. Glyph/Spellthread
Belt of Blasting.
FSW Boots or Boots of Incantations. Boar's Speed Enchant
Any PvP Necklace(Generally an upgrade to any non-raider)
Bracers from MgT. Spellpower Enchant, or +30 heal
Icon of the Silver Crescent/Scryers Bloodgem
The PvP rings are good till you can replace with Rep or Raid upgrade. +12 Spell Dmg (If your an enchanter)
Merciless Gladiator's Spell Blade > Princes dagger. +40 Spell power.
Orb of the Soul-Eater.
Carved Witch Doctor Wand

Rigid Dawnstones

You mean Great Dawnstones. And generally, you want to use Veiled Noble Topazes rather than Great Dawnstones. 2x VNT > 1x Great Dawnstone + 1 Runed Living Ruby.

Well, again with the veiled topaz's,
2x Veiled Topaz = 8 Spell Hit/10 Spell Dmg
2x Great Dawnstone = 16 Spell Hit.
2x Runes Living Ruby = 18 Spell Dmg
2x Veiled Noble Topaz < 2x Pure Stat Gem, plain and simple.

Until Spell Hit capped Great Dawnstone > Runed Living Ruby > Veiled Topaz's.

The only time I would ever use a Veiled Topaz is with a Glowing Nightseye in the FSW set for the 3Spell Hit bonus if I just hit 70 and only using spell hit to lower the miss rate in heroics

Until Capped, Spell Hit is worth 2x Spell Damage point-for-point.

Nono, you misunderstood.

2x VNT > 1x Great Dawnstone + 1x RLB.

8 hit/10 dmg > 8 hit/9dmg

2x RLB + 2x GD = 4 socket slots. 2x VNT = 2 socket slots.

So, if you use 4 sockets, then you get this:

16 hit/20dmg (4x VNT) > 16hit/18dmpg (2x GD + 2x RLB)
