I am debating about a profession for my rogue. I am not worried about money for now, so I dont want to take 2 gathering professions. I have a few questions if anyone can answer. First off, do you really need alchemy in order to make poison?(I read it somewhere.) Next, is alchemy a good profession for a rogue? Out of the many potions I saw, and beyond me using defensive buffs, possibly agility, and the stones, alchemy doesnt seem to come to its own until around level 35.

I saw leatherworking and I just wondered if it was worth it. I mean, I have enough money to fund myself, but I dont want to squander it on every new piece of armor each level, just for a bit more defensive power. Plus, I saw drums and I wondered if those are worth the leatherworking. Engineering looked cool for goggles but with another character, it took forever for me to level up to the flying tiger goggles.(Not to mention the cost to level it.)

I really dont know what other professions would be rogue friendly, so if anyone has any input, it would be greatly appreciated. And whatever crafting profession I take I already know to take the gathering with it. Finally(since I know the post is getting long) this is my first rogue, can anyone help me with tactics? I know that rogues are a hard class to play because they are very strategic. My first few fights, and even in my most recent fights, I notice that my health is low after each fight, usually against one opponent.

Can anyone help me with battle tactics? Right now I am only at level 5 so I dont have much to work with, and any help would be great. Thank you for your time.

Leatherworking is the best PvE proffesion tied with Engineering.

Drums are irreplaceable, Goggles are only barely replaceable.

You do not need alchemy to make poisons. I suggest gathering professions for leveling 'cause hitting 70 is damn expensive. Training, mounts, new gear, gems, enchants... my third 70 cost nearly 1.5k the day he dinged and he was pretty well prepared (40k honor, 2/3 shadow's embrace, mats for most enchants, etc). Not to mention that, well, the stuff you get from crafting professions while leveling isn't all that great. Some of it's good, but not so spectacular that you can't live without it.

But.... If gold is really no issue (and I mean, really no issue): For PvE-raiding go Engineering and Leatherworking for the goggles and the drums. For PvP go Engineering and Jewelcrafting for the goggles and the Shadowsong Panther. Just my opinion of course, but I haven't seen a good argument for a rogue to not go with these combinations at end-game yet.

Good luck!

Only one would be enchanting instead of engineering for PvE.

Thats assuming you can get something better than the goggles. Which isn't likely.

Enchanting? For the +4 stats to rings? Interesting. Or do you mean just for the cash-money machine that is Arcane Dust? ;)

Personally, I'd say that the goggles are still better. You're not going to replace them through t5 content (unless I missed a helm somewhere). And by the time you can score the t6 helm, you are pretty likely to hit the jackpot with the new SWP goggle pattern. Maybe I'm wrong here?

No, you're completely right. Goggles and other such sundry are the reason to take Engi.

Keep in mind there are probably going to be goggles in WotLK too (though nothing is in beta yet), so gearing up will be that much easier (money vs drops).

So does that mean leatherworking is useless or should I pair it with Eng?

Did I ever say LW was bad?

No. LWing is currently the single best profession for any PvE class.
