are resto druids viable endgame healers? i see that priests and shammies get huge bonus's from cloth/mail, but i havent seen leather get a bonus anywhere near that of cloth/mail (could be i just havent looked very much), or are our spells just not in need of such a big bonus to be able to keep up?

Yes, resto druids are quite viable end-game healers. There are some fights where their HoTs are a huge contribution to a raid group. And, just in general, they are plenty capable of keeping up.

While I've only healed as a paladin, I've raided with healers of all the different healing classes. They each excel at slightly different aspects, but all are completely viable. I can't point you to specific gear, but I know from playing with several good resto druids that the gear is out there.

Most certainly.
Every class and almost every spec has a viable role when it comes to end game raiding.

Druid, Priest, Pally, Shaman, each have their strengths and are put to good use. At the moment, my guild raids with 1-2 Resto Druids. It would be extremely difficult without them. Additionally, there are a handful of fights where Decurse is vital.

Good luck :)

I'll give you a few examples of why resto druids are viable end game healers.

Gruul - When he silences the whole raid, hots will continue to heal through it.

Hexlord Malacrass - Instant cast heals, when he does his raid wide attacks causing other healers to be interrupted and have a longer cast time

Tranquility has saved many a wipe for me.

HoTs just in general when you have to main heal a tank with another healer, there is a constant healing stream going so when the hp drops too far below you have given your other healer time to throw out a big heal.

There are so many reasons.

Yes, druids are absolutely viable end-game healers. A resto druid's specialization in HoT abilities adds an important part to a raids healing composition and some fights nearly require a resto druid to be there (Azgalor comes to mind in particular).

As far as gear goes I have noticed that resto druids generaly have slight lower heal bonuses than comparably geared pallys and priests. Most druids in my guild are sitting between 1900-2100 while priests and pallys are generaly above 2200. This doesn't detract from a resto's raid viability though because of the previously mentioned HoT abilities. There is plenty of high healing bonus leather gear out there (take a look at the badge gear for resto druids), although druids generally don't wear only leather, they usually end up with a mixture of cloth and leather items.

Part of the reason Resto druids have lower +healing is that Priests, Pallies, and Shamans get extra +healing from talents. Priests get 25% of their spirit, Shamans get 30% of their Int, and Paladins get 35% of their Int. The druid talent bonus is in their ToL aura and affects healing received by the target, so it won't show up on your character sheet.

Just wanted to say that, although I do concur that druid are, not only viable, but great endgame healers, there are some fights that, most likely, you dont wanna bring way too much trees (read as more than 3). You will need some shammys/priests for raid healing.

Also, Druids get good healing coefficients to their spells. I can't speak for pally and priest, but shamans DO NOT get good coefficients overall. That's why shamans cast 1 spell 90%+ of the time. They need higher +healing to get a smaller improvement in spells.

In our raids (starting BT & Hyjal) we prefer to use Druid & Pallys on main tank duty and have the Priests (Circle of Healing) and Shaman (Chain Heal) on raid heals. Each healing class plays differently and using a mixture of all 4 works really well in raids.
