Coming back after a year and a half hiatusFollow

I noticed the changes to illumination and i'm a bit dissapointed...oh well. They also really moved the entire tree around (again) so i'm unsure what I want my spec to be.

Anyways, I realize Paladin's can tank now. I've been looking over this forum for about an hour now, reading the stickies and such. I either haven't been paying much attention or the answer is too obvious to everyone for it to matter right now. What are the new abilities that let a paladin tank better? Can I still tank in a Holy specc'd class? (Holy is what interests me at the moment). I realize i'll do better in a prot spec, obviously, but in random pick-up builds for mid-level raids/instances where a tank is out of the question, would a holy specc'd paladin be able to tank effectively, or more effectively then a year and a half ago?

That said, what is the fate for a holy paladin in endgame? What abilities in the holy tree define an endgame paladin?

EDIT

I'm a 43 paladin who goes sword/shield and gears up for damage reduction.

The major differences from before are we have 1) a taunt, 2) a way to regenerate our mana, 3) Righteous Fury that actually allows us to gain aggro, and 4) a Prot spec that doesn't defeat itself with horribly thought out talents.

Other than that it's Consecration, Seal of Righteousness/Vengeance, and whatever is in the Prot tree.

The short answer: no.

This is true starting around BRD. If you meant lower than that (which there are no raids) then a Holy can do passively well as a tank.

Fate for a healing spec? Um, I'd have to say healing =P Specifically you'll most often be healer for a specific tank and leave raid healing up to the other classes. You won't DPS as Holy spec in raids: just not gonna happen. And tanking in raids is completely out of the question. Even though you're in plate, you'd still get 1-2 shot.

If Holy is what you want, be prepared to heal :) If you want to do something other than heal, start liking another tree.

lol, that's rich. They're so gimp, that's why they're highly sought after as tank healers in raids. Right, I can see it.

Like I said, they won't be doing any raid healing, but as far as single target healing, they are second to none. If that's your idea of gimp, you really need to rethink your definitions.

As for your other assessments: Prot Palys don't JUST tank trash and OT. Palys have tanked every boss in game (at least up to Illidan, not sure about Sunwell yet). They are less desirable as main tanks, but can still do the job very well.

And Rets: they are far from the "garbage" that they used to be and even those on this forum that have been hugely against Ret Paladins have stated that having one is useful in end game.

As far as tanking in any spec, you got that right, but it does start to get very difficult for off specs to tank at about BRD. Yes, it CAN be done, but I know I'd have to be very desperate in order to let a Holy or Ret Paladin tank from that level on unless they had a good tank set (not just passable, but good).

Prot Pallies tank all the trash and Offtank bosses.
Ret Pallies are garbage.

Serialthrill = fail

I've not seen a guild yet where Holy Pala's aren't the MT healers of choice. Their single target spam just can't be beat. I can stand there and just spam the tank when he is at 99% health, when he gets hit my heals are already there. Times that by 3 (3 pala healers) you've basically got 6k heals landing every 1.5 secs CONSTANTLY. Max Rank FoL is 180 mana, not really caring about overheal.

As mentioned on many many posts, Prot Pala's can and have tanked everything in the game.

And Ret.... Every serious raiding guild on my realm or on my previous realm either have or are looking for a ret pala. Why? Look at other posts for the numbers but Judgement of the Crusader is a big RAID buff, not party. Also, ret pala's also refresh judgments from other pala's. Having a judgement of wisdom ticking on a boss on a 15 min fight does a sh#tload.

I mean seriously, this is a pretty well respected pala board. You should really know what you're talking about before shooting your mouth off with this retarded sh#t.

EDIT: Waiting for Bodhi to throw his weight around in here....
