Arcane

* Arcane Impact is now called Spell Impact and increases the critical strike chance of Arcane Explosion, Arcane Blast, Blast Wave, Fire Blast, Ice Lance, and Cone of Cold by 2/4/6% (Old version : Was only affecting Arcane Explosion / Arcane Blast)
* New Talent - Student of the Mind (Tier 3) - Increases your total spirit by 4/8/12%
* Arcane Potency now requires 1 Point in Presence of Mind instead of 5 points in Arcane Concentration
* Potent Spirit has been removed
* New Talent - Arcane Flows (Tier 8, requires 1 point in Arcane Power) - Reduces the cooldown of your Presence of Mind, Arcane Power, and Invisibility spells by 30 secs.
* Netherwind Presence now increases your spell haste by 2/4/6% (Old version : Gives your Arcane Missiles, Arcane Barrage, Arcane Blast, Fireball, Frostbolt, and Frostfire Bolt spells a 1/2/3/4/5% chance to cause the next Arcane Blast, Fireball, Frostbolt or Frostfire Bolt to be instant.)

Frost

* Arctic Reach doesn't influence Ice Lance anymore

Mostly arcane updates. Looks to be a fair reworking of the arcane tree. Don't see the talent that was initially reported that increased crit by a factor of your spirit.

I don't know, but maybe I'm not seeing something. Don't you think 5% chance for instant cast better than 6% haste? I mean 5% for raiding is alright, but i wouldn't count on it for PvP.

I myself am not so decided about WotLK talents so far... I have the impression, that Blizzard is kinda undecided what talent treee is supposed to be good for what.

My own expectation in WotLK were actually, that we, as the squishiest of classes with supposedly the strongest aoe in game will do the best aoe again, and more dmg on single targets also (I don't care if its the highest, but high). Also I'd love our utility in PvE as well as in PvP to be at least what it is now. In PvP I hope that the number of classes that are invincible for us is reduced, and that aoe will hurt in PvP again, and not just hit a wall, like it is now. Spamable fire aoe would be awsome, as well as fire-vulnerability proccing from every firespell instead of only scorch.

I think that as of now, this is not given, judging by the talents and new spells I've so far seen, but seeing how nothing at all is decided yet, I won't really start whining.

What do you think about the new talents and spells?

Potent spirit is the spirit to crit talent. they removed it and moved student of the mind to a lower tier.

its still going to be hard for a mage to the baseline measurement of a caster dps class. the arcane tree is getting better again and its clear that a lot of focus has been given to that side while fire is largely neglected.

I am still thinking that:

may be the way to go assuming that frostfire bolt works as I understand, you could potentially move the 5pts out of imp fireball into impact as you should not need to be casting fireballs.

Opinions?

It is basically built off of an elementalist build to hit both winter's grasp + shatter + all the best abilities that I could squeeze out of the fire tree to try to get both. I assume that improved scorch, combustion, molton fury, and other abilities will impact/effect the use of ffb.

That's very similiar to how I'm gonna be building it, with only a few minor tweaks(Winter's Chill and Impact, mostly).

I must be missing something. With the talents descriptions currently given shouldn't we be planning on going deep into the arcane tree to get Arcane Barrage and invisibility cool down?

The problem with the invis cooldown is that arcane is the least threat generating tree in the game. You shouldn't really ever need to blow invis if you are using AM/AB/ABrg

The Fade time reduction is to make it more PvP-viable as escape or ambush, though you can't see enemies while Invisible.

good point, I hadn't thought of it that way. Hard to believe arcane to be a pvp viable spec though, even with ABar.
