Kara starting DW FuryFollow

Ok - I have taken the plunge and switched from tanking to DPS DW Fury warrior (17/44/0). B/c I had focused so much with my limited resources on obtaining Tanking gear - my DPS gear set fell to the wayside. Now, with that being said, I know I have some work to do on gear. Replacing greens / gems etc.

I done my first Kara run @ DPS the other day. And, well - I was lackluster to say the least. I knew this would be the case with so many weak points in my armor.

Here are my questions.

1. What starting stats would be a good target? (STR, CRT, HI)
STR= 496
AP = 1494
HIT = 106
CRIT = 24.58%

Also - for a decent geared DW DPS Warrior - what are the DPS numbers you have seen? I'm to embarrassed to let the entire world know my DPS hovered around 450-500. So, I'll keep that to ourselves. =)

I am saving up for badge gear and enchants too. From what I have read - I should focus on STR>CRIT>HIT. Which I am doing slowly. But wanted a target DPS and Stat targets to aim for.

Very helpful thread on Fury dps.

First Hit>Str>Crit until you reach 95 hit rating. 95 hit is the Yellow dmg cap with precision and you should stop gemming for it after this point. You can still pick up gear with hit on it but it's pointless to waste gems on it.

Second, never gem for AP. 1 Str=2 AP and str gets a bonus from kings.

I'm not sure wether you are in battle stance or berserker. Judging from the crit chance (compared to agi crit+crit rate bonus+cruelty) at the armory link I assume you are in berserker stance.
Your numbers are generally OK I think, and should support more than 500 DPS.

I found it hard to judge DPS (opposed to damage done) as a Warrior, as recount usually posted me inproportionally low on the DPS compared to the damage done, meaning I could have done same damage as a caster, but only 2/3 of the DPS. I assume the difference comes from Recount counting the time my characeter was set on Attack even when I was not attacking which considerably lowered my DPS (IE if I stood far from a mob and pressed the auto attack button, Recount counted that as a time with 0 DPS to add to the average).

It might be your rotation, though I doubt it, make sure Battleshout and Rampage are up at all times, also check that you WW and BT every CD, and HS every time you are above 50 rage (twink this number to your own preferance).

As you said yourself, you lack on enchants. Work on it, it'll help tremendously. Most importantly the head and leg enchant/armor kit, it's a huge bang for the buck in two items that you'll keep for some time, also you might consider "sacrificing" some Stamina for more offenesive stats, unless you are also off tanking in that gear, I ran with ~8K health unbuffed and it never posed a problem, though I never off tanked in that gear (though I didn't raid with my Warrior).

Have fun raiding, and keep practicing, I'm sure you'll do great,
Yuval.

Recount only adds in time that you are actually in battle. Meaning the time DoT's are ticking counts towards your in combat time. If you are standing away with no DoTs or any type of attack going on, it doesnt matter if your set to auto attack.

Also the caster dps could be higher because of idle time during threat cap or other times where they stop doing dmg.

1) hit to 9%/150 hit rating with precision. you don't need to keep it any higher because at sufficient gear levels, more of your white mainhand hits will be replaced by heroic strike, and specials only have a 9% miss rate.

2) then crit to 25% unbuffed in battle stance. this will provide you with the minimum optimal flurry uptime.

3) then stack strength until you reach 3k AP fully raid-buffed.

4) then get expertise up to 6.25% to eliminate 99.9% of dodges (WWS parses have shown 1 or 2 dodges despite having 6.25% expertise, leading many to believe that the true cap is 6.25-6.5%, however pursuing the extra .5% would come at the expense of other stats and is not recommended just to eliminate 1 or 2 dodges in a 10 minute fight). Shard of Contempt and human racial expertise bonus with swords/maces or orcs with axes help here in addition to 2/2 weapon mastery.

5) then stack armor penetration to 1350 (excluding executioner); this number will vary depending on the boss, as most bosses are in the ~6000 armor range but you have bosses in the ~7000 armor range.

the farther you go down the list, the more rage you will generate from outgoing damage, which will lead to more heroic strike spamming and less white damage being lost to misses.

DO NOT stack hit rating like a rogue. anyone that tells you to do so has never seen a fury warrior spreadsheet and doesn't know how to play a fury warrior.

you can expect about twice your dps now or more when you get into T5 content (depending on raid buffs and melee friendliness of the fight). this links to my armory, and before i got the legs, shoulders, bracers and hands that i'm wearing there, i managed 923 dps on Shade of Aran in prot spec spamming dual wield devastate. here is a WWS of my most recent Gruul kill in 17/44 spec, before those aforementioned upgrades.

don't use Recount to keep track of your dps as a means of improvement. WoW Web Stats (or WWS for short) is the only real way of comparing your dps from one attempt to another.

read the DPS warrior threads over at Elitist Jerks.
