Hello Folks,

I just recently started to level my hunter again. I hit level 67 this afternoon, and have started to look ahead toward 70. The main thing I have been browsing on various sites, is pet choices for various end-game content. My pet current pet choice is a Raptor. As soon as I hit level 65, I went out to Blades Edge Mountains to tame the full black one. Anyway, I was wondering if the raptor would be a viable PvP pet for BG's and Arena? Also if you would be so kind to share your prefered PvP pets, as well as raiding pets of choice with me, Id greatly appreciate it! I am more than willing to level and train three pets if need be!

Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide!

BG is any pet you like you will get your honor.

Arena hunters all say Scorpid as the poison debuff stacks and makes it more difficult for the healer to cleanse the viper sting you will keep up all the time. This info is purely from reading posts here I have never set foot in arena.

Scorpids are supposed to be where it's at for Arena, though I've never been a serious arena player by any means.

I usually use my carrion bird (the flying drood model one from BEM) for most things. Windserpent or Ravager for raiding/5 mans depending on what spec I am at any given time.

Thank you both for your contribution. I have heard a bit about scorpids, and played against Hunters with them in Arena (Main is a Warlock). I will have to look into picking up a Scorpid. As far as Ravagers, I can appreciate their damage output, but am not a big fan of them (looks-wise). I had my eye on a blackish/redish windserpent though I found on Petopia. I'm a bit intrigued by their ranged Lightning attack. I had previously stayed away from them because some have caster stats (as noted on petopia), however, the particular windserpent I was looking at in the Blades Edge Mountains, is no marked as having caster stats!

I thank you both again for taking the time to share some of your knowledge/experience with me! I think I am going to tame that Windserpent and give it a try in some 5-Mans. I will still keep my Raptor for its looks and solo play though :)

I use my trusty windserpent, Scrub. Much luff to him. He does great DPS.

PvE: Ravager, if you are BM and have over 35% crit (raidbuffed) get a Windserpent, SV needs higher crit.
PvP: Scorpid unless you are a nelf and play in 2v2's in a double dps team.

And yes, ravagers are ugly just be happy that in a few months Raptors will be the new grand masters of Dps.
(yes, as it looks now raptors will be the only true dps pet in WotLK)

As I recall raptors weren't half bad for DPS before, it was just the fact that ravagers and Windserpents were better DPS.

Raptors are the same DPS as cats, they just have less stam and more armor. Heroics and raids are all AOE damage for pet which is usually magic and not affected by armor, thus raptors not as good as cat/ravager for PVE.

They were bad because they lacked Dash, wich I found to be the best survivability tool for any raiding pet.
They are decent now, slight;y below Ravagers and Windserpents.
They will be awesome if they're not nerfed in the beta.

Simply said though, you can have a PvE dps pet (a.k.a. ravager or Windserpent), a PvP pet (a.k.a. scorpid) and 1 pet you just like.
Wich is good enough for me personally.

Personally, I have a raptor, a cat, and a windserpent. I use my windserpent more though.

Just to keep it simple:

PvP = Scorpid
PvE >= 30% Crit = Wind Serpent
PvE < 30% Crit = Ravager/Cat (ravager does slightly more, but not much)

I am assuming Ravagers and Windserpents win on the dps due to them having more dps abilities (Gore,Lightning) when in comparison to a Cat and Raptor. However, I don't understand why a cat would be better than a raptor (aside from a little bit more health). Petopia lists both Ravager, Cat, and Raptors at 10% dps modifier and Cats and Raptors carry the same general dps abilities (Dash, Bite, Claw).

I recently tamed a Windserpent, and it does have some nice dps. I just can't stand the flying motion it does every once and awhile when following behind (looks like its on crack, jerking up and down wicked fast). Anyway, I appreciate all the great feedback I am getting from you guys! I think I will train the Windserpent and maybe even pick up a Ravager and give that a try also. However, if Raptors look good in the expansion I may just as well hold on to the raptor ive got :)

Think they are talking about WOTLK expansion.

Taken from petopia about new raptor ability:

Raptors Savage
Rend
Slashes the enemy with the raptor's talons for damage, and cuases the target to bleed for damage every 3 sec for 15 sec. Successful critical strikes with this ability temporarily boost the raptor's attack power. (25 Focus, Instant, Melee Range, 1 min cooldown)

Right now, raptors and cats are exactly the same dps wise.

Well, cats can pull a tiny tiny tiny bit ahead with prowl.....

Number crunchers have found out a long, long time ago that gore is more dps than claw. If you really need proof I can go google it later (or heck you can google it). The reason wind serpents are more dps are because when you crit often enough (assuming you have go for the throat) your cat/ravager/raptor simply cannot get rid of the focus fast enough with the global cooldown. When you reach that point (which is right around 30% crit unbuffed), the wind serpent is simply able to make use of the excess focus better (because LB is 50 focus, while gore/claw is 25) and therefore is able to bleed off the focus before it becomes a waste.

The whole cat vs. raptor thing is really just a personal preference, you'll find more hunters using cats than raptors so it makes it simpler to use cat in my example than it did listing every single possible pet that anyone might ever use.

I'm happy with my kitty, then again, I suck at arena and am only ok at BGs.

Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to explain that to me! Thanks again for all the help guys.
