For arena and/or BGs, is it better to use the 2 handed staff or the 1 hander + off hand? The 2 hander (XXX Gladiator's War staff)gives slightly better stamina and intellect than the 1 hander + off hand as well as 42ish spell crit rating.

However, the 1 hander + offhand gives more resilience and more spell damage. So I'm just wondering what your opinion(s) are regarding this. I personally think the War staff looks better but I always thought spell damage and resilience were important in arena. So any information or anything I may have missed would be nice. Thanks.

Go with that which gives you what your gear overall lacks more. If you need the spell damage more, then the 1h +offhand. If you need more stamina instead, then go with the staff.

Going with what Poly said, it depends on what honor gear you get. If you get the silk set then the staff will make up for some of the stam and you'll be a crit machine. Here's a breakdown of the sets with all S4

Dreadweave w/combo - 209 stam, 434 spell damage

Dreadweave w/staff - 206 stam, 406 spell damage, 50 crit

Silk w/combo - 200 stam, 416 spell damage, 94 crit

silk w/staff - 197 stam, 376 spell damage, 144 crit

You also get more hit or penetration with the staff. I have the Dreadweave with the 1h/offhand combo because I like the high survivabilty and max damage to go along with frost. If I doing LOTS of BGs though and really loved them then the Silk set with staff and a PVP fire/arcane mix would just destroy with the crits.

Plus I think the dagger/book looks cooler..... :)

I have the Merc Staff. I wish I had picked up the dagger/OH. The extra resil would have allowed a bit more flexibility in my gemming. As it stands, in order to have the resil I want (around 425), I have to do alot of stam/resil and gemming. My +dmg suffers as a result, sitting at around 825ish.

edited b/c i is wetoddit and it's been too long since I actually compared dag to staff
