Ok people this is my first ever mage, most of my toons have been non casters. At this time she is a level 40 human mage and has been frost spec from day one. Here is her armory link:

I have checked all the posts and still have questions with if I should stay frost or switch to fire. At this time I have been hitting for around 550-615 with my frost bolts and love the control I have with the frost. Have taken on a 43 Elite and spanked him with no problem, but still feel that there is something I am missing. I hear this about end game bosses and the like being immune to frost and that you will never have the DPS output that frost has. I know that I live longer and have far more mana than some of my fire spec friends, but get left out in the cold, no pun intended, when I try to group up with them, I get the we need DPS not support/CC. So I am open for input on this.

the limiting factor of frost dps is that you do not have the same crit chance as a fire mage against bosses, because they cannot be frozen (until the expansion with winter's grasp) and therefore you can't have shatter crits.
At your level I think you're good to stick with frost. The shatter combos can make mobs drop like flies, it's only on bosses that you lose out on these.
Feel free to try fire out, but I don't think there's any real reason to switch before end game.

So what you are saying is that frost does not work on the end game bosses? Or not as well?

Pretty much at this point. Arcane(with some frost) and Fire are the power builds against raid bosses, but frost easily outclasses them in PvP.
