Problems with OutfitterFollow

Hello fellow Druids

I am having a small problem with Outfitter and was wondering whether anyone can help me out.

I use Outfitter to change my gear when I switch between the various forms (i.e. tank set for when I am in bear and DPS gear for when I am in cat).

The problem I am experiencing is that when I engage in combat as cat, and then have to switch to bear mid-fight (if say, I get a pat), my gear doesn't completely switch. One or two pieces remain unequipped, until the fight is over and then I get the "sound" of them being equipped.

My main concern is for when I am tanking. I like to start the pull in normal form, with a moonfire to the "X" target to gain some early aggro at which point I switch to bear. When this happens, I don't want to be sitting there without pieces of my Heavy Clefthoof set equipped, as it will leave me vulnerable to a melee crit.

Has anyone ever experienced this?, or do you use something better to change your gear with. Or in fact, is it even something stupid that I am not doing?

As always, your opinions are eagerly awaited.

Unlike your weapons, you can't change your armor mid-fight. It doesn't matter addon you use. It's built into the game code that you can't change in combat. If you're switching to offtank during a fight in kitty DPS gear, you will be crittable unless you already have your 415 defense (iirc) already built into your cat set. You CAN change your weapon, but it will consume a GCD, so be careful about that if you need to taunt or build aggro immediately.

The solution is to start in your bear gear before you Moonfire, or to drop a few HoTs on yourself, change to bear form (out of combat) and then faerie fire to pull.

I'm actually very glad that WoW has this feature, as it avoids the gearswap laden macros that were so common in FFXI (don't know about other MMORPGs). If you've played FFXI seriously at all, you know what I'm talking about.

For the record, Tabstopper's correct...the only items you can switch in combat are weapon, offhand, and relic.

I've been an Outfitter addict for many moons, and have two recommendations:

1) You should set up a hybrid gear set for offtanking so you don't find yourself caught tanking in full DPS gear or DPSing in full tank gear. Set up an outfit that combines your best DPS pieces with your best survivability pieces. (Remember you only need the magic 415 defense (or less if supplemented with resilience) to be uncrittable against level 73 mobs (i.e. heroic and raid bosses), and can get away with less (approx 390 iirc?) against lower level mobs and bosses in regular instances (which I believe all behave as level 72). I use a slightly modified version of my PvP set for offtanking, as it has a nice combo of stamina, armor and attack power/crit.

2) It's why I fell in love with Outfitter, but I highly recommend disabling automated form-based auto-swaps for the reason you describe. Do so by rightclicking the outfit and changing "Automation" from the name of the feral form to "None." Then set each outfit that you want fast access to as a numbered outfit elsewhere in the menu. Then keybind each outfit within Interface->Key Bindings menu. I have shift-1 for dps, shift-2 for tank, shift-3 for PvP, and shift-4 for Grinding/Offtanking. (Grind/OT is PvP set with a dps trinket instead of fearbreaker trink)

Thanks to both of you for the swift and comprehensive replies.

It seems as though my ignorance of the inability to switch armor during combat was to blame. That was something that I was not aware of, so many thanks for the information.

I will take all of your suggestions onboard and go home tonight and play around with Outfitter.

Rate-ups for all :)

Definitely disable shifting with forms. I used to have it set up to change my weapons including my healing weapon in caster form. All it does is gost you global cooldowns when you can least afford it. If you are shifting to bear you want to be able to taunt IMMEDIATELY. Same when you shift out for an emergency heal - you generally can't afford to wait for 1.5 secs to begin casting.

Other than that, I think I would quit the game if I couldn't use a mod like Outfitter. I have PvP, Tanking, DPS, Hi-Stam Tanking, Fire Resist, Nature Resist, Frost Resist, Healing, Frost+Nature Resist sets (With Shadow resist being put together atm). Imagine having to try and remember which pieces were for which set quickly!!

Throw in the auto-equip for Riding Crop etc and you really just can't do without it.

I agree with others, disable the automatic form equipping. What I do is set up different sets but bind them to shortcut keys. This means when I want my tanking set I push a button. When I want a dps set I push another button. I can switch forms or stances all I want.
