If pets and guns really interest you, you might want to roll a hunter. However, if you want to stick with a rogue, the answers are yes and yes.

All players can get non-combat pets. However, these are cosmetic only and won't help you fight. At higher levels, there are certain trinkets, like the Khorium Boar that will summon a combat pet for 30 seconds or so. Similarly, certain quests can give you rewards like the mechanical yeti, which can fight for 30 seconds or so. Engineers may also be able to make these pet-like gadgets, but I am not sure. However, none of these pets really fills the same roll as a warlock or hunter's pet.

As for using guns, you can train this skill from a weapons trainer. You can train guns in Ironforge or Thunder Bluff from memory. You will only use guns to pull mobs, rather than to fight them (unless they are running away.) At higher levels you will probably want to stick to thrown weapons, so that you can use Deadly Throw. If you are going to use any weapon other than a thrown weapon, I would do it for the stats rather than the damage. Hence you want to look for guns with +agility rather than something like +strength.

Edited for spelink and stuf.

Yes, engineers can have pet. And quite powerful too. I remember that my little dragon saved my *** quite a few time (it was orange to me when I first created it and seemed to actually stay ahead of me in terms of level which is quite cool). So when you're against too many mobs, call your pet who will usually fight for you 1 min or 1.5 min or until killed. You can even have several such pets and rotate them, if I remember correctly they're not on the same timer. I remember using the dragon and the chicken this way at some time.

Note however that this is strictly for PVE when grinding. You'll never use it in pvp where you have much better trinkets and you'll never use it in lvl 70 pve in my eyes. Plus it's on rather long timers (30-60 min) so it's not like you're a hunter with a "real" pet. Only rogues and warlocks have such pets.

As for the gun, yeah you can use them, but they suck for pvp because you need a throwing weapon for DT as mentioned by Fisto. For pve however, you might want to use a gun for the better stats (not for the damage though, all classes deal crap damage with a ranged weapon, except of course hunters).
